facebankMy money bank is boring. It just has animals on it, and some stickers from when I was still in single figures. But I think I’ll stick with it if it means I can sleep at night without the nightmares sure to be induced by the Facebank…

The Facebank is the latest creation of the Japanese Takada Collection (and it could only come from Japan couldn’t it?). Its basically a block with a face on it. It’s made with pink PVC skin, enabling it’s mouth to move in a freakily realistic way.

Yes, I said move.

Offer the Facebank a coin and it reacts like a squirrel given a particularly juicy looking nut. Activate the sensors by waving a coin at it, place the edge on it’s lips and it begins to gobble up your cash with every sign of enjoying it immensely. And then it belches. Yup- belches. Not only does it eat your cash like it’s chocolate money, it then burps in your face as a thank you. Watch the video!

I don’t even want to know what happens when it comes time to get your money back out again. I just hope there’s no added sound effects…

I would assume that once you’ve slept with the Facebank on your shelf you’d get used to the monkey face staring at you while you sleep. Either that or turn it to face the wall. Or put it in another room entirely. I think I’d be doing the latter because this is a truely WTF gadget. It uses sensors in it’s eyes to work out when you have a coin ready for it- impressive yes, but bloomin scary!

Although I suppose you could turn that to your advantage- you’d save cash because you’d not want to go near your money box to get it out again in case it goes haywire and starts to chew on your face. Obviously the only draw back to the plan would be finding someone willing to put your coins in to it in the first place…

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
