As we reported a few days ago, Apple are planning on launching a touchscreen tablet this year similar to the iPod and iPhone but on a larger scale (with a 10″ screen) and with new interactive booklets, sleeve notes and other interactive features to boast album downloads. The question is now what will it be called?
There have been rumours about Apple launching a tablet device for the last few years but in recent months the rumour mill has been working overtime and now the Financial Times has run a piece predicting that Apple will release a tablet device, code-named “Cocktail”, before Christmas.
Microsoft’s Windows 7 includes some enhancements and features for touch screen computing but until now there hasn’t been much news from the netbook manufactures about how they are going to use these new features. For example Asus recently launched the T91 touch screen netbook in their Eee PC range using custom software on top of Windows XP. But now Sony has spilled the beans about their intentions with Windows 7 and netbooks with touch screens.
Shuttle has released a “barebone” version of their all-in-one touch screen mini PC the X50. The dual-core processor Intel Atom powered X50 is a 15.6 inch all-in-one PC with touchscreen and carry handle. All this comes in shell that is only 36mm thick.
“Barebones” means that you decide for yourself which components should be installed in the All-in-One-PC. You need to buy a 2.5″ hard drive, add some memory, install them in the X50 and you are up and running.
