Apple is now focusing its attention on burgeoning Chinese markets and it seems like that the company is on its way to take the top spot in the emerging market. According to Morgan Stanley, Apple is likely to boost up its efforts in China in next year. It is expected to collaborate with major carriers such as China Mobile and China Telecom. This would ensure that Apple phones are available on all the three major carriers in China. With these new tie ups, Apple is looking to increase its sales volume to 40 million units.

Apple is currently offering iPhone in China through China Unicom, which is second largest telecom carrier in China. However, with this tie up, Apple can access only about 15 million “high end Chinese subscribers’. The country is estimated to have about 150 million such high end subscribers. China Mobile, which is the country’s largest carrier company, manages about 120 million such consumers. Remaining 15 million subscribers are with China Telecom, which holds the third spot in Chinese telecom market.

Morgan Stanley also believes that the next iPhone will come with 4G capabilities. While 4G is fast becoming the norm, Apple has so far shied away from adopting this technology. The new phone is likely to hit the Chinese market in late 2012 or early 2013.

While market experts yet have to reach a consensus about the probable arrival date of iPad 3, but the rumors are not going to stop anytime. The latest rumors now suggest that Apple may decide to equip its next generation tablet with quad core processor. While it had already been speculated that the new iPad would come with faster processor, the use of quad core processor is a new rumor.

It is also being speculated that iPad 3 would support the use of 4G speeds. No matter how much we would like to believe this rumor, but it seems highly unlikely that iPad would get 4G speed, while iPhone is still running on 3G. Rumors also did not address the issue whether such upcoming iPad would run on 4G channels of both AT&T and Verizon or not.

Deployment of 4G is going to have many other implications as well. Though quite unlikely, but Apple may decide to provide 4G speed to tablets first, owing to their larger batteries. Bloomberg also said that iPad is better suited to meet the requirements of 4G than iPhone is.

There are already several rumors suggesting that iPad3 will have superior resolution display akin to ‘retina’ display.

We’ve already given you our first five tech predictions of what we’re most looking forward to in 2012, including Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Nintendo’s follow-up to the Wii, the Wii U, Asus’s quad-core Prime Tablet, Windows 8 tablets and the iPad 3. Well, now it’s time for part 2, which includes gaming, phones, and TV’s.

6. PlayStation Vita

The Playstation Vita is a beast of a system and is jam-packed with tech and features that firmly brings it into the realm of a device that can satisfy your every mobile need: gaming, entertainment and communication.

The system includes both front and rear-facing cameras, it features head tracking and facial recognition, a gyroscopic sensor and accelerometer, a microphone, a 5-inch OLED touch-screen and a rear-mounted touch-pad.

With a powerful processor and plenty of memory, the PS Vita promises a much more impressive gaming experience compared to its predecessor the PlayStation Portable. Despite its impressive technology, pricing – while at the premium end of the market – is reasonable, with ShopTo.Net putting the RRP at £229.99.

Vita is releasing in Japan this month, so there is a possibility of getting one on import before Santa Claus climbs down your chimney - it is likely to be plagued with shortages as it is the only new gaming device to be released this Christmas.

7. Asus Padfone

The Asus Padfone is either going to be a massive success or a bit of a damp squib, essentially it’s a giant smartphone that can then be slotted into another device to make a fully fledged tablet. When it was announced it raised quite a few eyebrows. But with the new Tegra 3 processor as well as Ice Cream Sandwich – it’s going to try and unify the ground between a phone and tablet.

With a launch planned for Mobile World Congress, we could be about to see the first quad-core phone release, and that’s really going to shake up the competition.

8. Sony PlayStation 3D Display

Sony’s budget 3D TV has been specifically designed to be used with a Playstation 3, for less than £400 you get a 3D display capable of 1080p output and a pair of 3D glasses.

The monitor is on sale in the US, with a European release date expected in early 2012. If it’s successful, it could be the TV that takes 3D to to the mass market.. The set has been designed for those of you who want a device in a bedroom or snug, and don’t want to spend thousands to enjoy the plethora 3D content now available.

Sony’s new TV does have one particularly impressive party piece – it will allow users to play games with split screen action but each user will see a full screen instead of half – we’re not sure whether it will only work with the glasses, but the the idea and tech is very clever indeed.

Included in the price will be a pair of 3D active shutter glasses, 6ft HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3, for a price of $499. Sony have also pointed out that the new glasses can be purchased for $69.99 and will work on their different 3D TV’s.

9. Android 4.0 tablets

You might wonder what Android 4.0 actually brings that Android 3.2 doesn’t offer now, but the answer isn’t as simple as a list of better features. In our Android 4.0 review, we found that the big steps forward is in the little things. It’s much more streamlined, and more easy to use, and that’s vital for making it seem as appealing as the iPad to those who don’t care about hardware specs.

But more than that, we want to see what it inspires in the tablet manufacturers. We see all sorts of different app choices, custom widgets, hardware differences and philosophies from the different companies making Android tablets, and we can’t wait to see what Ice Cream Sandwich brings out of them.

10. iPhone 5

Apparently the last project Steve Jobs personally work on before his untimely death was the iPhone 5 – after the disappointing upgrades we saw in the iPhone 4S – everyone expects the new iPhone 5 will be massively different.

Unlike the iPhone 4S, it’ll be a completely new design from what has gone before, so that means an entirely new casing.

Interestingly, someone who claimed to have seen a larger-screened iPhone 5 prototype said in November 2011 that Steve Jobs canned the new handset and opted for the iPhone 4S because of the larger screen size of the new device. According to Business Insider, it was feared that a new size would create a two-tier iPhone ecosystem.

Based on the roadmap of mobile chip design specialist ARM (of which Apple is a licensee), we’ll see a quad-core processor debut in the iPhone 5 – probably called the Apple A6. We know that we’ll see other quad core handsets debut in 2012, so it’s not too much of a stretch to say that the iPhone 5 will be the same.

Other rumours suggesting the Apple will finally make a handset compatible with 4G and NFC have also been rumoured, quite when we’ll see the iPhone 5 remains unclear, but it’s likely to shown off in the summer 2012.

According to The Korea Times, Korean smartphone users are not very enthusiastic about the phone and are skipping on the phone on account of its lack of features. Apparently, Apple’s ongoing battery life problem is not helping the matter either. iPhone 4S also does not support 4G, which is also deterring many users from buying this phone.

Unlike other places, South Korea has not welcome the phone in a big way and it has been reported that the company has pre-sold only 150,000 to 300,000 units of the phone. Apple is collaborating with Korea Telecom and SK Telecom for the launch of the phone in South Korea.

The news also claims that the new phone lacks the wow factor and the only new feature worth considering is Siri. However, even this feature on its own is not enough to induce people to buy iPhone 4S. This is leading many Koreans to give cold shoulder to iPhone 4S and to go for other 4G enabled phones. Other complain is about the lack of support for Korean language on the phone. We hope that iPhone 4S is not feeling very hurt as it has already set the record for being the fastest selling smartphone in the history.

iPhone 4S is Apple’s first product launch without Steve Jobs and it has left quite a few of its followers disappointed. This might sound surprising given the fact that the phone has pretty much sold out all its pre-orders on all its carriers. But it is not so much about sales numbers, but more about Apple’s legacy to provide more than its users’ wild imagination. And this time, it looks like Apple users are feeling shortchanged.

According to a survey conducted by Retrevo, about 29 percent of the smartphone users said that they are disappointed by iPhone 4S. According to them, Apple failed to incorporate a few crucial new features. The biggest disappointment was on the connectivity front. About 17 percent of the smartphone users were expecting the phone to be 4G compliant. This seems logical as quite a few new phones now come equipped with the technology and the LTE connectivity itself has spread far enough to justify the development. Much to the users’ disappointment, iPhone 4S still runs on 3G, just like its predecessor. This figure is even higher for iPhone4 users, 29 percent of whom wanted to see iPhone 4S with 4G compatibility

About 11 percent of the users were expecting Apple to drastically change the form factor. Again, no surprise on this front as 4S looks exactly the same as iPhone 4. This factor also managed to disappoint 21 percent of iPhone 4 users. Another factor was related to the bigger screen. A couple of years back, iPhone had wowed us with its spacious real estate, but now the phone looks pigmy in front of those new machines with over 4 inches of screen size. 12 percent of iPhone 4 users’ hearts broke seeing the same size screen.

It was widely speculated that Apple would release its latest iPhone iteration with 4G capabilities. Though, the rumors did not turn out to be true, a report released by research firm ABI Research has suggested that 4G smartphones are going to be mainstream pretty soon. The report stated that 4G smartphone shipment is expected to grow at a compound rate of 72 percent per annum for the next five year.

4G technology is still in the nascent stage. While the handset makers are now warming up to the idea of making 4G compatible phones, the telecom companies are also betting big on installing 4G network. Year 2010 witnessed the shipment of only 4.6 million 4G phones, but the numbers are likely to increase to 245 million in 2016.

The report further suggests that smartphones are likely to consolidate their position as the most favored devices for accessing 4G networks. The growth of 4G capable smartphones is expected to grow more than any other device like tablets. The report also suggested that for the proliferation of 4G, LTE technology is likely to be favored over WiMax technology, despite the fact that WiMax is more universal in its approach and has lower component costs.

However, LTE is getting more popular due to the fact ‘everyone else is using it’. The report explicitly states that, “Nearly all of the world’s mobile operators, including the largest, are supporting LTE. It is an important driver for the LTE ecosystem that dwarfs any other drivers of 4G in general or of WiMAX and LTE, specifically.”

Since the Apple announcement regarding the iPhone 4S on the 4th of October, at the Let’s Talk iPhone event I am sure that many Apple fans have been waiting for pre-ordering to commence today. Usually, us in the UK get the short straw as previous iPhone’s have been released a few months after our friends over the Atlantic, however this time round the UK and the US have both been given the same release dates to buy the iPhone 4S.

So around 8am this morning, I waited in anticipation to buy the iPhone 4S on the Offical Apple website. The website was down for quite a while however at 9:05am I managed to a pre-order for my shiny iPhone 4S, 32GB in white. For those of you that still want an iPhone 4S and have it delivered straight to your doorstep rather than queuing at the Apple store on the 14th of October, there are quite a few retailers that are accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 4S, however you will need to hurry fast as they are being snapped up like hotcakes at the moment:

Buy iPhone 4S: Apple Website

If you’re looking to get a sim only iPhone 4S then you can visit the Apple website, however they have estimated that you will receive between 1-2 weeks so it might not be in time for the 14th of October. If you can’t wait that long then there are some contract versions available from other providers below or you could start camping out your local Apple store now…

Buy iPhone 4S: 3 Store

If you’re looking to get a new contract then Three are offering a pay monthly option for the 32GB and 64GB versions. To work out which plan is best for you, visit their store here which will direct you straight to the pre-order website. For the 16GB version unfortunately they are only available in store.

Buy iPhone 4S: Vodafone

Similar to Three if you’re looking to get a contact then Vodafone are offering some contract options for the iPhone 4S. However unlike Three they are also accepting pre-orders for the 16GB as well as the 32GB and 64GB versions. Their tariffs range from £26 to £65 per month for the 16GB, and increase as you want more the other two GB versions. Check out what they can offer you by visiting directly online here

As many had suspected Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook took to the stage at their Cupertino Head Quarters to unveil their new iPhone. But it wasn’t the iPhone 5 that we had all hoped for – but a iPhone 4S – essentially the same phone on the outside, but a handset that has been completely redesigned on the inside.

Apple’s focus yesterday was quite clearly price; with Microsoft and Android closing in Apple needs to sell more phones and they clearly decided to make the iPhone a little less premium.

So from now on the 3GS will now be the budget iPhone – you’ll be able to get this handset for free on a 2-year contract. The iPhone 4 range will be scaled down to just a 8GB version which will set you back $99 (£70) and then the iPhone 4S will set you back $199 (£130) for the 16 GB version – rising to $399 for the 64GB version.

Design

On the face of it the phone hasn’t changed at all, well that’s not entirely true as the phone has been completely re-designed from the inside. The first major difference is the new dual core processor and dual core graphics technology.

The phone’s workhorse is now the same chip that you can find in the current iPad 2. It means that games and apps will run up to 7 times faster than the current model and websites should load twice as fast.

Other major changes come in the form of two new antennae, which will switch on the fly – so there shouldn’t be any antenna problems that plagued the last phone. According to Apple the new Antenna design will allow for 4G speeds for the new handset without actually having 4G technology.

The phone will also come with a much improved camera, which has now been upgraded to 8 megapixels and comes with vastly improved lens’ – it should make picture taking one of the iPhone 4S’s best features.

With the new camera the iphone 4S will now be able to captured 1080p HD video. Other than that the design of the phone is remarkably similar to the current iPhone 4. Side by side you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart.

iOS 5

Apple spent a lot of time recapping what you can do with the iPhone 4S now that it comes with Apple’s latest version of their iOS software. Changes to the iOS included a few news apps too. So you will find Siri; a voice controlled concierge service. It allows users to compose SMS’s, diary dates, tweets and be able to ask the phone questions via your voice. Ask it to find Chinese restaurants and it will the list them on the phone and via speech.

Quite whether people are going to want to talk to their phone remains to be seen but from the stage demos it did look flawless, the voice that gives you the answers did sound a little bit scary though. It’ll only work in English, German and French to start with, with more languages to be added in due course.

Another app on show was Cards; its an iOS version of the greeting card-maker built-in to iPhoto, but with a twist – instead of printing and shipping cards to the user, who then has to buy stamps, address and mail the cards – Apple takes care of printing, mailing, and postage and sends the card directly to the recipient, with a push notification going to the senders iPhone upon delivery.

Users will take pictures, design the card (choosing from 21 different designs), customize the greeting and Apple takes care of the rest. Cards will cost $2.99 each when mailed within the US, $4.99 internationally. The Cards app itself will be a free download, launching October 12th, with iOS 5.

Apple’s “Find My Friends” feature was hinted earlier this year, and has now arrived as an App to locate (with permission) users’ friends and family with iOS devices on a map, much like Google Latitude or Foursquare.

Users will be able to easily set privacy controls including only sharing locations during certain times of day and more. “At the end of the day, location sharing stops automatically. Easily locate friends and family, with temporary sharing options, and has simple privacy controls.”

Elsewhere during the conference, Apple also detailed what to expect from iOS 5 when it launches on 12th October. The new operating system brings with it a refined Notifications system, a new messaging app called iMessage, a personal organiser called Reminders, enhanced Twitter integration, a magazine shop front called Newsstand, a few tweaks to camera functionality and tabbed Safari browsing on the iPad. Game Center – which now apparently has 67 million accounts – also gets an update. You’ll be able to add photos of friends, recommend games to them and see their achievement point totals.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that Apple will sell loads of 4S’s over the next 12 months and from the looks of it will be a amazing handset – but once again Apple has gone down the route of evolution and not revolution, which many had hoped for.

But, you need to factor in this year’s shortages of components and Apple’s struggle with the iPad 2 availability – it’s probably the right decision to stick with the iPhone 4 design. It would have been a big risk to completely re-design the iPhone – especially if they couldn’t meet a massive demand – so the iPhone 4S is safe move for Apple.

The iPhone 5 will come next year and will be a generational leap in technology much like the 3GS was to the 4 – you’ll just have to wait another 12 months before you can get your hands on it.

The iPhone 4S can be preordered from the October 7 and purchased on October 14 – at the time of writing no UK provider is confirming contract prices.

What do you think of the iPhone 4S ? Are you excited or disappointed by what Apple announced ? Let us know.

Samsung may be dealing with big legal troubles these days, but it does not mean that the company is lagging on the innovation front. The Korean has just raised the bar by announcing Hi-Def mobile phone Samsung Galaxy S2 HD in Korea.

The phone has notable specs as well. It comes with a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and has a spacious 4.65 inch HD screen which is capable of handling 720×1260 pixel, which summarily beats iPhone 4’s 960×640 pixel resolution. The phone is a little chunkier than S2, with 9.5 mm thickness. However, it also contains 1,850 mAh battery instead of 1,650 mAh battery packed in Galaxy S2.

And as it is becoming mandatory for new phones, S2 HD also contains an NFC chip, which would let you make payments by just waving your phones. Of coure, this functionality will vary from country to country depending on their service providers and financial services collaborators. Apart from this also boasts of solid 8 MP camera. The phone is also 4G ready, but again, you may not get this functionality until or unless telecom companies in your area have upgraded to LTE.

In the meantime, Samsung also announced that it has shipped 10 million Galaxy SII tablets globally, which indeed is a commendable number. The achievement is also especially good when we consider discontinuation of HP TouchPad and sliding prices of BlackBerry PlayBook.

Samsung has not announced the pricing of the phone. Also, the phone is currently available in Korea only. But guess, we can wait for good things.
