Nintendo DSi - The next generation of DS

Author: Arutha | Files under Gaming, News, Nintendo

Not to make it sound like a GTi version of the DS, the Nintendo DSi is the next generation model of Nintendo’s popular handheld console the DS which was unveiled at a press conference in Japan just a few hours ago.

Following the PSP’s example the new DS ‘DSi’ will be 12 percent smaller - at just 2.6mm thick - and the GBA slot has been removed with will be replaced with a SD card slot. It also features a built-in three megapixel camera.

It even has a bigger screen that the current DS, with the DSi screen increasing to 3.25 inches and BOTH will be touch panels. An improved speaker system will also feature.

Software wise it seems that the DSi will have a Photo Channel and a web browser - probably similar to that of Wii.

The current Wii Points system will also be changed with the arrival of the DSi, as they will be renamed to Nintendo Points, as you will be able to buy games/programs to download to your DS, with the web browser giving the user direct access to a new Nintendo DSi shop, where these programs/games mentioned will be sold, ranging from 200 to 800 Nintendo Points.

Also a new built-in ‘Lifestyle Rhythm Calculator’ software will, among other things, bring Mii’s to DS.

While not waiting around the DSi will be available in Japan from the 1st of November for 18900 yen (£100 to you and me). But it seems us UK gamers will have to wait until next year to get our hands on it.
