Blu-ray to Die Out in 5 years!

Author: Arutha | Files under Home Entertainment

With the current sweep in home video technology it has been a hard time for avid film viewers, having to upgrade their already large collection of movies to the new Blu-ray standard which delivers a higher quality on screen as well as giving the producers more room to add special features to their films.

But it seems that these people will have to start saving once again, with reports stating that the Blu-ray disc only has a life span of 5 years!!

Quoted by the hugely popular manufacturer Samsung, who have said that in 5 years another form of technology will have been released to rival and destroy the Blu-ray.

“I think it Blu-ray has 5 years left, I certainly wouldn’t give it 10″, Andy Griffiths, director of consumer electronics at Samsung UK told Pocket-lint in an interview.

It seems that these guys believe that their own latest technology known as OLED will be the Blu-ray killer; it would be able to be released now were it not for a “high manufacturing costs” according to Mr. Griffiths.

He then went on to say that 2010 could be the earliest time we see the OLED technology make an appearance in Curries near you, so could this also be D-day for the Blu-ray?
