Sony Bravia TVs going green

Author: TazzaHall | Files under Energy Watch, Environment, General, HD-TV

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there seems to have been a recent spate of TV shows and documentaries focusing on the plight of the planet and how we all need to be a bit more environmentally friendly. Well if you’re watching these stories on one of Sony’s new Bravia TVs, there’s less need to feel that impending sense of environmental guilt. Unless you’ve left the light on in the kitchen unnecessarily.

The new range of Bravia TVs have a few green credentials up their sleeves, starting with an auto shut off function, which turns the set to standby mode after ten minutes of no input signal. This reduces the amount of power unnecessarily being churned from 169W to a much lower 0.3W.

To reduce power usage and therefore your electricity bill, all Bravia models have brightness sensors which react to how dark a room is. It will then automatically adjust its picture settings to lower power consumption. This doesn’t necessarily mean a reduction in picture quality, as the guys at Sony have worked around this so that there is no impact on your viewing experience.

Another greening element to the Bravia family, is the power-saving modes that now come as standard. These modes lessen the environmental impact of your TV but is also aimed at reducing the cost of running it, which is something I think everyone will be glad to hear with the cost of electricity continually climbing.

If you’re in the market for a new TV, being green is definitely a factor to consider, but reducing the cost of running your new addition to the family is something that is also a priority. These Bravias are high on quality, and low on guilt.
