Samsung Omnia: Debuted for the second time

Author: TazzaHall | Files under General, News, Samsung

A month ago we did a preview of the new Samsung Omnia (meaning ‘everything’ in Latin and ‘wish’ in Arabic), and concluded that it did a pretty god job in its aim to grant you everything you could wish for in a mobile phone. Last night, we attended the official launch of the phone, which was interestingly timed as it has already been available in UK shops for the last few weeks.

We were treated to a holographic presentation of the Omnia’s features which made powerpoint seem as old school as the first Apple iPhone. Afterwards we had another chance to get our hands on the phone to see if still posed a threat to what is already a flooded market.

The details and features of this phone, were covered in our last post on it. I must say though that I really like the Omnia, but I have one rather major problem with it- it’s not Mac compatible. For an Apple fiend like myself, that renders a lot of its synchronising features useless, which is a shame really as in the end, I’m left wishing for a bit more with this phone.

Is not due to the operating system being Windows, the iPhone is only compatible with Windows due to Apple making an application that is windows frendly a.k.a iTunes, which is due in part to Microsoft letting developers create applications like this.

If Apple released the code to allow developers to do this, I recon phones like this would be able to synchronise to a Mac.

God never thought i’d be digging Microsoft lol

I think your absolutely right. There are too many phones out there that just don’t offer Mac compatibility.

But what I didn’t know is that this is an issue with Apple itself an not the phone manufacturers so thanks for the heads up Arutha.

Samsung Omnia is buggest disappointment of the year from Samsung, its big disaster, super flop, with lots of bugs and due to operator software the functionality of the omnia is degraded specially from Vodafone uk
buy any other phone except Samsung Omnia

in all the review on the entire website its proved as most hated and bugull of phone which is released by Samsung in hurry without proper testing,

Well, interestingly enough I was speaking to a few people from Samsung at this launch party and the general feeling was that they were personally more impressed with the previously released Tocco rather than the Omnia.

Is not the Omnia the big daddy of the Tocco? They were prob not impressed due to the fact that the Tocco already came with the brilliant touch screen that is now on the Omnia and as for the 5 MP camera that’s been done etc.

But if you ask me the Omnia could wipe the floor with the Tocco in a fight, what has the Tocco got that the Omnia has not?

Except the fact that’s its smaller, but that in turn feds back to my big daddy theory.

All in all I think the feeling was more incline towards people who were looking for something new but didn’t get it, for a techie this phone is a dream it combines everything you want and does it so seamlessly.

It wasn’t that the Tocco had better features, but that they felt it competes more directly with the Apple iPhone whose market everyone wants a piece of.

The Omnia is by far the better phone of the two in terms of spec, but it is therefore more expensive and is likely to not sell as well as the Tocco.
