Why dont people have solar power technology in their homes. I would have thought by now the government will be giving grants out.

Is solar power not a good investment?

This is something I have thought about. Have to look into this to see how much solar power can save£££.

I love the idea of solar power and wind power but it's dead expensive isn't it? Not much incentive to do it - as someone above pointed out, you'd think the government would give grants to encourage use of solar/wind power for domestic use.

Still, more electricity providers are providing 'green' power options now, which helps - all these wind powered home electricity packages will get more popular and probably cheaper.

In the meantime, there's always the little things that can make a difference... for example, I discovered this afternoon this portable solar charger (http://www.shinyshack.com/product.php?prid=211591&pn=Uvee-Portable-Solar-Charger) for mobile phones, MP3 players etc. Pretty groovy and an affordable way to feel like you're making a contribution!

No at the moment its quite costly to install and it just isn't worth it, how much sun do we get here in the UK.

However that nifty little device from Debs looks pretty good. It looks like something you'd use when your going on your outdoor activity trips. There a few cool devices like this..

Hi Debs, I agree with Gaj that little device looks neat. Has anyone tried one of these?

The only thing solar I have is a £4.99 Solar LED garden light which using day light charges two batteries resulting in the two charged batteries powering a single LED through night. The LED lasts approximately 6 hours, not bad for nothing.

To take advantage of the different solar powered options, you might want to look into purchasing a solar water heater. This approach will provide you with the best wattage per dollar you spend. It is considered a great investment.
