Telecom providers, around the globe, are pulling down their ‘all you can consume’ unlimited plans. But, T-Mobile UK is going against the grain and has introduced its brand new ‘The Full Monty’ mobile service plan. Despite its tacky name, the plan is worth having a look at. It has been divided into four pricing slots and offers unlimited calling, texting and data facility.

The four slots have been price at £36, £41, £46 and £61. All these plans offer unlimited calls on T-Mobile network, unlimited text messages and unlimited Internet usage. Apart from £36 plan, which gets quite generous 2,000 minutes of calls to other networks, other plans are eligible for unlimited free calls.

Talking about these plans, Ben Fritsch, Head of Propositions, T-Mobile UK said, “Over the past two years, we’ve seen a rise in mobile internet use of over 250%, which reflects the consumer trend of being ‘always on’ wherever they are. However, consumers also still want to retain a more personal level of communication by calling or sending a text.”

‘The Full Monty’ subscribers will also be eligible for availing the benefits of ‘big 3G switch on’ introduced last year. Under this program, T-Mobile and Orange share their 3G spectrum, and thus offer 3G signals at more places. The Full Monty plans are available with several high end phones including iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy SII. You will need to sign up for e4 months plan. T-Mobile is introducing the plan with effect from February 1.

prices. Amazon UK is joining in the festive spirit and has kicked off Christmas sales. It has already added hundreds of book titles to its sales and these books are now available at throwaway price of 99p. The sale will remain on for next 12 days and Amazon UK has announced that it would be adding new titles everyday during the course of sales.

Amazon is not the only online retailer to come up with this sales campaign. With 12 days of Christmas sales, Apple would be offering digital goodies at cut-throat prices. The campaign will run from December 26 to January 6th. The Cupertino company has started the giveaway with a couple of tracks from Coldplay. These videos and tracks have been taken straight from an Apple sponsored festival. However, it is likely that over the course of next 12 days, Apple would be offering wider variety of products.

Apple will be offering daily deals which would be available for 24 hours only. The company has also launched a dedicated app so that you can track the latest offers. So, get ready for the double treat.

Under this scheme, if you buy a DVD from one of the Tesco stores, you will get the digital copy of the movie for free. Earlier this year, Tesco acquired 80 percent stake in online film service Blinkbox. According to the company, the transaction is meant to bring “internet-driven revolution in home entertainment.” Tesco is now looking to compete with established players such as LoveFilm and Netflix.

The new offer is available to Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme members. Tesco has about e0 million loyalty card members. You can buy a DVD or Blu ray disc under this scheme from Tesco’s online service or from one of its stores. The digital version, which you will be getting for free, can be played on various devices such as PlayStation, LG Smart TVs, iPad and Xbox.

The scheme is set to start from Friday and the first movie to be offered is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part e. The company will be offering thirty titles under the first installment of the scheme. Michael Comish, Chief Executive Officer of Blinkbox, said, “This is the tip of the iceberg: this will go from 30 to 300 to 3000 titles over the next 1e months. The aspiration is that the majority of all new DVD and Blu-ray releases in Tesco stores will be part of this offer.” The other titles would be Jeremy Clarkson: Powered Up, The Lion King and The Smurfs.

eBay is not only the king of online shopping but also is looking to be the main source for your holiday shopping. The online retailer will open its Christmas boutique in London, which will sell a wide variety of products at massive discount. According to the news, the store will open on 34, Dean Street and it will be equipped with Quick Response or QR Codes. This would be the first QR Code venture of its kind in the UK.

With these codes, you can simply scan the code using your smartphone and then that code can be used for buying the products online. The idea may seem bizarre. Essentially, it would be a store where you cannot buy anything. However, it would be great for people who avoid online shopping as they do not get to touch and feel the goods before purchasing them. With QR codes, you can test the goods as much you want and later can order the goods from the comfort of your home.

According to eBay, the Christmas store will feature a wide variety of “top gifts from leading brands, each with its own unique QR code and up to 70 per cent off”. The store will open on December 1 through December 5.

BlackBerry screwed it up big time last week and now it is going to pay the price. The company officials have already gone on the record asking for forgiveness. However, as Sony has already shown us, there is no better way to placate your angry customers than to offer them some freebies. So, now it is BlackBerry’s turn and the company is now offering about $100 worth of free apps from its store. The company is offering 12 of its premium apps for free and the offer is good till 31st of December, 2011. The apps would be available for free download from October 19th.

The free app suite would contain apps like SIMS 3, Bejeweled, Bubble Bash 2 and N.O.V.A. Apart from these gaming apps, RIM is also going to offer a couple of premium utility apps such as DriveSafe.ly Pro and Photo Editor Ultimate. The complete list of the apps is as follows:

• SIMS 3 – Electronic Arts
• Bejeweled – Electronic Arts
• N.O.V.A. – Gameloft
• Texas Hold’em Poker 2 – Gameloft
• Bubble Bash 2 – Gameloft
• Photo Editor Ultimate – Ice Cold Apps
• DriveSafe.ly Pro – iSpeech.org
• iSpeech Translator Pro – iSpeech.org
• Drive Safe.ly Enterprise – iSpeech.org
• Nobex Radio™ Premium – Nobex
• Shazam Encore – Shazam
• Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant – Vlingo

RIM said that it would be adding more apps later on. The company has also decided to offer one month of free technical support to its enterprise customers. You can get more details about the offer here. So, what do you think? Are these apps worth the inconvenience you had to go through due to outage?

All in all, it’s been a pretty good weekend in the UK. The world’s most famous coffeehouse chain tweeted, “All our customers can access Free Wi-Fi at hundreds of Starbucks locations throughout the UK. Just click ‘Connect’ and enjoy!” However, for the sake of clarity, please let us point out that the free Wi Fi service does not extend to Starbucks branches in the airports. Starbucks would be providing this free Wi Fi service through BT Openzone.

Starbucks had been providing free Wi Fi service in the US from quite some time. However, until now, the service in the UK was a paid one and required you to sign up for a Store card, which provided you with a login id for using the network. Starbucks announced that the first phase of roll out would see about 650 stores getting free Wi Fi hotspots. It would be extending the coverage over time.

The coffee house will now feature unsecured network, which means that you just need to click the network and would obtain the entry. However, at the very same time, it may expose itself to phishing and other sort of attacks. So, although using this network, follows the common rules and precautions you apply whilst using public networks, the service is almost basic in the UK, in comparison to the US, where Starbucks also provides free access to paid content such as Patch, US Today and The New York Times. It is expected that even in the UK, Starbucks will enter into collaborations for providing similar access to the paid content.

The program is applicable to new customers and old customers who are upgrading. All that you have to do is to buy a smartphone via Vodafone and for three months, you will get to enjoy unlimited data usage. Essentially the main idea behind this initiative is to let new users take their time for finding out their approximate data consumption. After the end of promotional period, Vodafone will let you know your data usage and will suggest appropriate data plan.

Vodafone told Pocket Lint, “Vodafone’s ‘Data Test Drive’ is designed to give customers the confidence to experiment with their new phone on the UK’s best network, get to grips with its features and explore all the apps that are available for it.” Vodafone also said that it would allow tethering under this plan.

The plan is currently available with Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S and this phone is already available with this offer. The company said that the plan would be available with upcoming smartphones too. So, if you are an existing customer, then do not lose heart. With the impending launch of iPhone 5 and a slew of other phones, you may decide to upgrade your smartphone and thus become eligible for this offer.

The idea sounds good. After all, most of the times, you get tied to your data plan for at least 24 months, so a couple of months of ‘test drive’ will let you determine the optimal data plan, which will increase utility for you while increasing the revenue for the telecom company.

If you are looking to lower you internet bill, then you are in luck, for Orange has just announced its new home broadband plans. The telecom company is certainly going to score some major brownie points by introducing its new unlimited broadband plan with the base price of £5. Sweet deal but there is a catch here since you will have to pay £12.75 extra as line rental. But still the plan is one of the most affordable plans around.

The plan offers impressive “up-to” 20 Mbps speed and also provides free evening and weekend calls. Orange has revamped its other plans as well. You can opt for Simply Broadband, which will cost you £12.75 per month if you are an Orange customer, however for Non-Orange customers, the plan will be priced at £22.75.

Alternatively, you can opt for the Broadband and Anytime package at £22.75 per month. This price includes £12.75 as line rental. Additionally, these deals also let you access about 200,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in the UK. However, you need to commit for 12 months for availing these plans. The pricing includes a wireless router, fringe benefits such as Orange Film to Go and a protection software suite from McAfee.

Orange also announced 15 percent reduction in its tariffs for home broadband plans in the rural areas. Orange is widely considered to be a reliable broadband services provider and its new tariffs are making it look even more attractive.

After getting a taste of cheaply priced tablet, thanks to clearance sale of HP tablets, the users will find it difficult to spend £500+ on other tablets. The sale also proved that if tablets, barring the ones from the House of Apple, have to succeed, then they really need to lower their margins and set the price point of their devices really low. And the lesson seems to have struck a chord with Amazon, which is planning to launch its new range of tablets later this year.

According to the rumors buzzing around, Amazon tablets may actually be priced for “hundreds less” than the iPad. Amazon so far has not provided any ballpark figure for its upcoming tablets. It also seems like that Amazon is planning to test a new model, which is more closely aligned with mobile phone plans. The online retailer is apparently going to make the hardware available at the cheaper, but will make money selling content for that hardware. However, the strategy will only work if the users are willing to shell out money for buying content. If we loos at the app sales stats, then most of the paid apps fail to sell well. In such a scenario, Amazon may find it difficult to hawk the content and make users pay for that.

Amazon is in the process of releasing its Android power tablet during some time in September or October this year. The tablet is likely to feature 9-inch screen with a dual core processor. The other more powerful tablet will contain quad core processors.

Last week saw HP call time on its WebOS operating system and its family of devices including the Touchpad – over the weekend HP put the final nails in the coffin by having a fire-sale of its remaining stock.

That saw the manufacturer drop the price of the tablet down to an ridiculously cheap £89 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version. This led to a major buying frenzy with Touchpad selling out in the US over the weekend. Yesterday saw the same discount on our shores and many eagle-eyed consumers picking up the tablet at massively discounted prices.

You’ll should still be able to get cheap Touchpad’s if you’re lucky and if you get a chance then you should certainly pick one up. They’re already being sold on ebay for as much as £160 – by people looking to make a quick profit. And with the possibility of running Android and a home-brew version of Linux it looks like a very clever purchase for many.

With the sale of the Touchpad it is hoped that this will give a bump start to the tablet market over the next couple of months – plenty of consumers are now looking to pick up alternatives to the iPad at discounted rates.

Now is certainly the time to buy. With the sluggish sales of tablets due the bleak economic outlook for consumers and retailers – many have now begun to discount tablets. We’ve even seen the Asus Eee Pad for as little as £290 on some online retailers. So if you’ve been on the fence about picking up an iPad alternative now is the time.

If you’re going to buy a tablet, bear in mind you get what you pay for. However, there are some circumstances where you just don’t need a top-of-the-line, all-singing, all-dancing machine. If you are just looking for something to surf the web and read e-books – splashing out £400 on a iPad would be silly.

The same for watching films can be said. If you want to play a multitude of video codecs an iPad would be the worst choice due to Apple’s limited video playback. Below you will find a host of tablets running various version of Android that won’t break the bank and are well worth looking into.

Barnes & Noble Nook Color

The Barnes & Noble Nook Colour is essentially a colour version of the Amazon kindle. Sporting a 7-inch vibrant colour display for around £180 you pick up a tablet that comes with built-in Wi-Fi, 8GB of on-board memory, Barnes & Noble store as well as a Micro SD expansion slot. The built-in web browser work very well and even runs flash (something the iPad can’t do) and it also supports PDF, Word and ePub files.

The Nook can display images and several video formats and has support for audio and Mp3 playback. It comes with its own set of Apps, but unfortunately it doesn’t have access to the Android Market place, but we’re sure there will be work around for this.

The Nook is a step-up from Amazon’s Kindle, and offers much of the functionality of many Android tablets, at half the cost of an iPad.

ViewSonicViewPad 7

The ViewSonic Viewpad is essentially a Samsung Galaxy Tab – it comes with the the same 7-inch form factor and run a Android 2.2 – so there will be no shortage of apps for this dinky tab. It also comes with a front and rear facing camera.

It still shares some of the frustrating features that you’ll find on the Samsung version such as the keyboard and awkward size.

Despite utilizing Android 2.2 very well, the ViewPad comes across as more of an oversized novelty smart phone, rather than a Netbook alternative.

But for as little as £140 – it a steal for someone who wants a tablet to surf and do emails on.

Archos 70 (8GB)

Archos have always been famed for their portable media players and their the Archos 70 looks to continue this trend – if you are looking for a tablet to watch films on and output them onto a TV then this is the tablet for you. It comes with a capable 1GHZ processor, a 7-inch touchscreen, HDMI output and 250 GB storage space if you go for the £260 version. Other wise the £160 version comes with 8GB onboard memory and a SD card slot for extra memory. The device can play the following video file extensions: AVI, MP4, MKV, MOV, MPG, PS, TS, VOB, FLV, RM, RMVB, ASF, 3GP

Sure the build quality isn’t the best, but the Archos 70 gives you more raw power and features than any other tablet coming in at under £170, but it also has massive limitations, making it more of a toy than a serious tool.

Asus Eee Pad

We’re the proud owner of an Asus Eee pad and over the last couple of months we’ve seen several online retailer discounting the new Honeycomb tablet. Asus have made a smart move by dropping the price of the tab just in time for the release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The Asus Eee pad come with Honeycomb 3.2, 16GB of onboard storage, micro HDMI, SD Card Slot, and a lovely widescreen 10.1 touchscreen display. Factor in the party trick with the transformer dock and you’ve a tablet every bit as good as the iPad.

The Asus Eee pad has been getting rave reviews from all over the place including us. And with some online retailers selling the tab at £290 – you’d be a fool not to consider one of these next-gen tablets.

Galaxy Tab

The Galaxy Tab is an Android 2.2 tablet, surrounded by bigger and better Android 3.0 tablets, priced in the same area. This means that this 3G-free version of Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet offers a good mix of price and horsepower, but the new wave of inexpensive Android 3.0 devices leave it overshadowed in many cases.

But with a price tag as little £210 and a whole host of apps from the App Marketplace it certainly worth a look.
