We love our shiny new tech toys, but how about the old ones? Electronic gadget disposal is fast becoming a big environmental issue and now European Union has decided to tame the beast. According to a new plan recently approved by European Union, electronics retailers are now under legal obligation to accept electronic waste for proper disposal. The retailers are not allowed to make any charges for providing this service. The new provision is only applicable to retailers with 400 square meters or larger space.

The new rule is meant to be implemented over the period of next seven years and hence you may not be able to use this facility anytime soon. The new regulation also requires the member states to collect 4Kg of per capita e-waste every year. By 2016, the threshold limit would be raised to 45 tonnes of e-waste for every 100 tonnes of electronic gadgets issued to the market in previous three years.

Though, the new rules have largely been welcomed, but there are certain voices of dissent as well. Computer Aid International, a UK IT charity organization, has clearly expressed its disappointment. The charity organization said, “Of course Computer Aid wholeheartedly welcomes the additions to the directive, having higher recycling collection targets and tighter border controls on e-waste exports will help to reduce the amount of electronic equipment either being sent to landfill or being illegally exported to developing countries.”

What’s the worst thing about Spotify? It doesn’t pay that much to artists. No. It’s devaluing music? No. It’s the fact that the service is pretty poor when it come to music discovery. There’s so much music, that often, it’s hard to find the hidden gems – sure you can use your friends recommendations – but what happens when all your friends just listen to Adele or Jay Z.

Well Spotify has recognised this shortcoming and it’s plan to solve it is to create a new apps platform. A system of apps that look to enhance the experience of users listening to music. It will allow developers and media partners to build apps to run within the company’s desktop application – serving tickets, reviews and recommendations to Spotify users.

The Announcement

The announcement was made last week at a New York press conference, and see’s the Swedish company follow Apple and Facebook’s lead with their own Apps eco-system, a dramatic change for the company. But, interestingly, the apps that are going to be available on Spotify won’t be sold for a profit, in fact they won’t be sold at all – meaning developers will have to get a little creative in order to monetise the system.

Chief Executive Daniel EK said that Spotify will bring a host of new features to the software; such as recommendations, ticketing, editorial content thanks to partnerships with the Guardian, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Songkick, Last FM and TuneWiki. For example, The Guardian’s app brings album reviews from both the Guardian and Observer into Spotify’s service.

“Today, we become a totally integrated platform,” said Ek. “We’re opening up our platform in a way that lets you curate the apps that you want, and really make Spotify yours … This is the beginning of something game-changing for digital music.”

The apps will of course sit within Spotify’s desktop client, although Ek did state that if successful, the platform may extend to its mobile apps in the future too. The apps will be available for free to paying users of the service.

Developers will have to go through the usual hoops to get their apps on the service. They will have to submit their ideas to Spotify for approval before building and launching anything. This should mean that the Spotify App store won’t be full of useless apps – something Google failed to do in the early days of Android. The premiss of the system will be to add valued content alongside Spotify’s music.

Spotify will be using the apps platform itself, to add new features to the service – starting with a Facebook-style news ticker showing what friends are doing on the service. Ek said: ”We have a lot more in the works. But more than anything we really look forward to being surprised by developers,” he said. “We believe they’re going to deliver amazing new apps within the Spotify platform.”

Recent Criticisms

Ek didn’t talk about the recent criticisms of streaming music payouts to artists during the event, but he did defend the company’s business model, in response to a question about whether its payments to music rights holders risk becoming a bigger burden as more people use Spotify.

“For us, we don’t feel that those are onerous terms in any shape or form. We’re very happy with how our model is performing,” he said. “We are paying out the vast majority of all the revenues, and that’s really how we want to keep going.”

Spotify currently has an impressive amount of users with 10 million active users, and 2.5 million of them paying for the service. It is available in 12 countries, and its users have created more than 500m playlists – a number that has doubled since July 2011.

“The Spotify revolution is really to make access as an alternative to ownership,” said Ek. “We’re just three years in, but we’ve already become the second biggest digital revenue source for all the labels in Europe behind iTunes. And we’ve paid out more than $150m to the music industry so far.”

He also summed up Spotify’s mission statement with a carefully-crafted soundbite: “The ultimate goal here is to be as ubiquitous as the CD, but with all of the obvious advantages of being digital.”

The Apps

We’ve had an extended look at some of the apps that are currently available, they’re not groundbreaking in anyway, and Apple will hardly be quaking in fear of what Spotify has planned. The new app service looks to get users engaging more, and not just running the software in the background.

We Are Hunted’s app is simple and effective, allowing you to instantly playlist 100 of the top tracks from online sources like blogs. Last.fm’s app will have potential for those of you who have scribbling their music for a while. Songkick offer easy access to contert tickets of artists you listen to and The Guardian, Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, obviously, offer more of a editorial focus.

Apple Vs Spotify

Ultimately, if Spotify becomes the next big bastion for music delivery this will surely put another nail in the coffin of the labels favoured model: selling music. Something Apple has had a stranglehold on for years. Traditionally, the Spotify vs Apple argument has been often been played down, but, with Spotify’s increased exposure with its Facebook partnership, the Swedish company is the clearest competition to the iTunes crown.

The age old battle of ownership versus access is one that is brought into sharp focus with this new announcement – we personally can’t see both coexisting without having an impact on one another. The likely winner, surprisingly, could be Spotify. Sure it’s going to take a while, but with an all-you-can-eat ethos Spotify looks to be a better deal for the consumer, and less so for the major labels, Apple and independent artists.

Tech the Halls and spice up this year’s Christmas celebrations with a few gadgets bound to get at least a few people in the festive mood. It may not be a 21st party but with so many people to keep entertained, why not turn to technology to compliment the Turkey?

Whether it’s your Christmas party at home or at work, these gizmos will get nan off the eggnog or even involve Barry from accounts to end 2011 in a memorable way.

10. Karaoke Machine

What better way to subtly hint to your third cousin twice removed that you fancy them a bit than by singing along to a bit of “All I want for Christmas is You” with Mariah Carey? Or keep the kids entertained for hours by having them re-enact their favourite moments from Glee.

Karaoke Machines come in all shapes, sizes and prices with basic machines costing as little as £40, and Karaoke Box-Set CDs from £20. There are also DVDs players that have a karaoke function, so all you need to do is plug in a microphone and claim your five minutes of family fame.

9. Photo Cube Smartphone Printer

If you have a bit more budget and want something to get the kids involved in, the Photo Cube Smartphone Printer is a great idea to instantly print off pictures snapped on your phone. It only takes 60 seconds for a digital picture to leap off your phone into your hands.

No longer will you have empty promises of sending that great pic you took to everyone else in the group shot, just pop your phone into this printer and provide a picture for everyone. Christmas is sometimes the only time everyone gets together, so it’s nice to provide a memento of your gathering to keep everyone going until next year.

The Photo Cube will set you back £120, with an extra £20 for ink cartridge and paper.

8. Digital Photo Frame

Grandma and grandpa will love the novelty of watching the family through the ages flick past while they sip on punch. Digital photo frames take up little room and are a great feature for a family get-together.

You can theme photos to just show funny snaps, or take a tour through the ages starting with mum and dad as kids moving onto the latest addition of the family. If you’re hosting a work party, fill it with past party photos or as a bit of a look-back on everything that’s happened this year.

Digital photo frames have been around for awhile and as such have dropped in price since they were first released. If you’re a bit of a savvy shopper you can pick one up for £20, but it may be worth spending a bit more to up the photo resolution and memory capability so that you can keep the photo show going for hours.

7. iPod Dock

There are a few options for getting the carols pumping in your house or office this year, and one is getting an iPod dock to shuffle through your tunes through a decent pair of speakers.

Logitech has a range of docks that provide excellent quality sound and will look great on the mantelpiece. The Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus and the Rechargeable Speaker S315i both sells for £64.99 and are portable so can even come outside should the need for a snow-picnic arise.

6. Snow Machine

For some people, this might not be such a great Christmas Party gadget with the abundance of snow already piled up outside your front door, but for those dreaming of a white Christmas and getting nothing of the sort, a snow machine can make that dream come true.

Priced from as little as £50 for a small device, a snow machine doesn’t have to cost the earth. For this price, you can get a machine that will project snow up to 6 metres, and is remote control so you don’t have to end up looking like the abominable snowman when trying to turn it off. If you do spend more on a snow machine, you are more likely to get a quieter device that won’t sound like a chainsaw going off in your living room.

Just to be clear, a snow machine doesn’t produce real snow, and you do need some special Snow Fluid to make the magic happen, which costs around £20 for 5 litres of the stuff.

5. Home Brew Beer Machine

Why not compliment the roast potatoes with a glass of your finest home brew, vintage 2011? Home brew kits are easily accessible, and just by mixing packets of ingredients with water you can call your living room a microbrewery.

The Beer Machine Model 2000 is just £90 with an impressive-looking bar-style tap and pressure gauge to make sure your liquid gold doesn’t explode all over the place.

There are a range of beer mixes to choose from as well so you’re not just stuck with your standard ale. Flavours include Dutch Lager, Canadian Red Lager, Nut Brown Ale and Czech Pilsner.

4. Cocktail Fountain

On the topic of innovative inebriating drinks, this is a chance to combine practicality with a stylish interesting looking centrepiece. This cocktail fountain will let the daiquiris flow from four dispensers to create a lovely water-feature for you to stick your glass under.

It lights up too to create a night-club-esque ambiance which is great for gearing the office party up for the real night clubs afterwards.

At £24, this little gem of a party feature won’t break the bank and leaves you with enough to fill it with your spirit of choice.

3. Game Consoles

How do you tire the kids out when they’ve been cooped up all day? Yes they’ll want to play with their presents for a bit, but what happens when little Johnny steals little Frankie’s transformer pack? You distract them with something to tire them out- like a bit of Wii.

With games for kids and adults alike, a Wii or PS3 is a great idea to have set-up in a corner to get everyone involved. If your work Christmas budget allows for it, a bit of Guitar Hero 5, Dance on Broadway or Just Dance 3 won’t go astray. Or maybe it will but that’s the whole point really.

For PS3 faithfuls, get all of the aunts and uncles around some Family Game Night 4, Truth or Lies or Yoostar 2.

2. Mini Projector

While you may have last used a projector to display your PowerPoint prowess, they are also a good idea for scrolling through funny photos, or for playing a heart warming movie on Christmas bringing families together or something of the like.

You can get pocket projectors for around the £80 mark, but that may not be the right device to sit through the Titanic with, mainly because the battery life just won’t last.

Mini projectors are larger than pocket projectors and some come packaged with a screen. They have better resolution but will still fit into tiny spaces. Expect to spend around £270 for a decent one.

1. Portable Hot Tub

If the snow machine didn’t do it for you this idea will- banish the Winter chill in your very own affordable portable Hot Tub. This may not be appropriate for every office party, but it will provide a talking point if you and your co-workers decide to go tenths in one.

The Lay-Z-Spa will set you back £330 which includes a water filtration system, Lay-Z massage system, rapid heat adjustment and 12 months warranty in case someone decides to wear stilettos in it. It takes 30 minutes to set-up and will fit back in its little box when you’re done resembling a prune.

Even if you don’t end up using it on Christmas day, what better way to melt away the stresses of having all of your family factions together than by spending all of Boxing Day in your very own hot tub eating turkey sandwiches?

Once popular music service Napster is no more. The service has been merged with Rhapsody, which bought the service from Best Buy last month. Napster was launched in 1999, which were the simpler times. The service was a novelty back then and it was something people had not experiences before. Napster was created by Shawn Fanning and it allowed its users to swap MP3 files with each other.

The service initially used peer to peer networking and it treaded l3gally dubious territory, and this is something which caused the eventual demise of the service. Napster was used by artists and the recording industry as it ate into their profits. Napster was hit with a lawsuit by The Recording Industry Association of America in 2000. Soon, the service was being disparaged by popular artistes including Dr. Dre and Metallica.

The lawsuits forced Napster to start blocking unauthorized music exchange, which caused the massive decline in traffic. Various Napster copycats such as Kazaa and Limewire also failed to survive. In 2003, Napster was bought by software company Roxio, which released the service in a new format. However, it failed to capture the old magic. In the coming years, Napster changed many hands. Roxio sold it to Best Buy, which sold it to Rhapsody.

While Napster was founded on l3gally and morally dubious grounds, but we got to give it the credit for bringing new options to the table. It was good while it lasted.

It’s hard doing a review of a pair of earphones which cost over £100 when the Eurozone is in meltdown. But I’ll try, and the best way to convince you to take the plunge and invest in high quality earphones is to discuss the multitude of problems with cheap, plastic earphones that we all deny, though we know perfectly well they exist. I’m talking about the fact they fall apart- the foam falls off the buds and the wire gets frayed. I’m talking about not being able to hear the uber-quiet bits of a song like the band chatting in the background. I’m talking about missed frequencies and crackly, metallic tones. I’m talking about people looking at you funny because your jazz compilation is spilling out of your ears and into the quiet midday bus.

Have I made my point?

So let’s look at the alternative, Atomic Floyd’s new flagship product the ‘SuperDarts.’

Build quality & features: 5/5

Atomic Flyod use only the best materials to build their SuperDarts. We’re talking high-end stuff here titanium, steel, Kevlar and gold as opposed to plastic, plastic, plastic. Is Gold and Kevlar just sheer extravagance? Well I see that the components sound like the make-up of a tank more than earbuds, but titanium is so strong it takes its name from the Greek Titans. This means the Darts are tough and solid, you can literally feel the quality in them. As for the gold anyone who has vague knowledge of sound engineering will know why that’s there.

The eartips are made from SoftSeal silicone. They fit like a glove and ensure 2-way noise isolation to block out any annoying background noise which is very relaxing when you want to zone-out from the hustle and bustle.

As for features, the Darts come with a remote which provides full control of playback and volume, as well as seamless switching between music and chat (they have full iPhone and iPad compatibility).

It doesn’t stop there either, the cable is anti-tangle and the plug is armored and goldplated. Now you get an idea of how good the build-quality is.

The style: 4/5

I think you can tell this from the huge section of text above, but the company aren’t interested in how fashionable their buds are, they’re interested in supplying the very best quality possible.

“We don’t want anyone wearing a pair of Floyds because a celebrity has endorsed them” they say. That’s all well and good, but if you have earphones dangling from your head in public, you don’t want them to look ugly do you? Fortunately these guys are stylish, minimalist and come in a range of colours.

The sound quality: 5/5

This may seem like a get out clause, but it really is difficult to put sound into words. I can say crisp, smooth, pure, intense, and absorbing which all describe the beautiful sound quality of the Darts, but you really have to hear to believe. They are sold in Apple stores, so why not pop in and ask for a demo.

Gaj-it verdict: 5/5

Stylish earphones unrivaled in quality, for people who want only the best from their music.

Available at http://www.atomicfloyd.com/ and Apple Stores for £199.00

Here we go again it’s Christmas shopping time and from now until Christmas Eve we will be running around gathering gifts for our loved and not-so-loved ones. Some of us are great at shopping and will manage to find a unique and special gift perfectly tailored for its receiver but the vast majority of us will be wrapping up the ubiquitous bottles of whiskey and pairs of festive socks.

Here in the tech world the number one lazy gift is speakers. I mean, you can’t go wrong really, if you buy someone a pair of speakers they will ‘get used’, but why settle for a pair of boring second rate portable speakers or a supermarket-standard iPod dock when there’s some epic music lover’s toys out there!

The Pocket Boom Portable Vibration speaker is one of them. So what’s so great about it? Check out our review and find out.

Portability: 5/5

At last a company who truly understands portable. This speaker is small enough to fit in your pocket and can be taken and used literally anywhere. It’s a magical, sticky, battery powered pad that you attach to anything you please and turn said object into an epic booming speaker. And I mean anything. Your office desk, a teacup at home, your car door when you’re on the move, a lamppost when your outside. The pad will turn almost anything into a speaker.

Features: 3/5

The 3.5mm jack allows it to connect to almost any media device you can find. There’s not much else than the speaker and the jack. Controls are, basic. You can turn the thing on and off but the volume controls are limited and there’s no equalisers are anything like that, but come on this isn’t a studio monitor it’s a potable speaker designed with portability in mind. One neat little bonus feature is its ability to charge via USB whilst you’re running from home/office which helps to save battery life.

Quality: 4/5

You would expect a pocket size, battery powered speaker to be very flimsy but this thing is rugged. It could certainly cope with a festival or two. One issue is the sticky pad which will lose its sticky at some point but a replacement pad is supplied so, not major issue by any means unless you plan to give the thing an insane hammering. Sound wise it’s what you would expect, it amplifies the volume of your media device without tainting the quality too much but certainly not improving it a great deal.

Gaj-it verdict: 5/5

It’s a great Christmas gift for audiophiles and at a smidgen under £19.99 it’s great value. Don’t expect to plug this thing onto an empty plastic cup and host a rave but if you like to give you day soundtrack and you hate the muted, tiny sound of cheap earphones and in-built mobile speakers then this little piece of kit will liberate your music.

The Pocket Boom is available from the 1st of December at mobilefun.co.uk

But life’s too short to have bad days! Despite its importance the humble alarm clock is a neglected household item. Most of us will either use our mobile phones and one of their horrendous, soul scrunching ringtones or we will use one of them little black travel alarm clocks from the catalogue which are fine until they run out of battery or go metal and start to go off at their own desire.

Functionality: 3.5/5

Waking up to a favorite song is a pleasant way to awake. However, the chosen song eventually loses all its attractiveness when it becomes fused with the thought of cold mornings and work. But thankfully the charmingly named Tick Tock Dock is an alarm clock which has it all. The iPhone/iPod dock come alarm clock allows you to wake up to your favorite songs in beautiful quality and with enough volume to actually wake you and when you begin to feel a murderous rage as soon as you hear the songs from your playlist you can switch the dock to its FM radio mode and let somebody else choose which tune to begin your day.

But iPod docks aren’t new and neither are radio alarm clocks, but this is a useful hybrid which can wake you up with music and keep the grooves going throughout the day. With iPod and iPhone connectivity plus the FM radio (24 stations) and an auxiliary input for even more audio connectivity this is a versatile gadget, but it’s a shame there’s no DAB and on the whole it brings nothing new to the table.

Sound Quality: 4/5

Two 360° degree omni-directional full range speakers allow for rich, multi-directional sound that can be easily controlled using a docked iPod/iPhone. For an alarm clock the sound quality is exceptional and is one of the main pluses of this gadget, but it’s now boom box so don’t expect it to jump from the bedside to the party. But if you want to listen to your playlist while you relax in your bedroom and you want more than earphones can offer than this will more than do.

Style: 5/5

Looks wise, this is a gadget that delivers. The vintage alarm clock shape (as you can see in the above photo) works as a great frame for any shiny little iPod/iPhone and it won’t look out of place on any bedside cabinet no matter how fashion conscious the resident is. It’s classic looking, but modern and what’s more, it comes in a range of colours: black, silver, and beige

Gaj-it Verdict: 4/5

A classic Christmas or Birthday gift. There’s a million and one of these types of gadgets out there and this one brings absolutely nothing new to the market. What it relies on is quality. Every aspect of it has been well designed and well-constructed. If there is someone out there who owns an iPod and still hasn’t got a dock (or has recently broken one) then look no further.)

The Tick Tock Clock is available at Amazon for £59.99

It is time to put an end to apparently never ending iPhone rumors. Well, let’s just say that we are going to end iPhone 5 rumors mill. However, in the final installment, let’s talk about how Apple is finally going to introduce just one phone and it may also just go ahead and axe iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle. Once we are done with these, we can start with iPhone 6 rumors.

Back to iPhone 5, analysts and industry pundits have finally conceded that Apple would be unveiling only one new phone, instead of two. Apple has already handed invitations for its ‘let’s talk’ event, which is scheduled to be held next week. It is quite likely that Apple will come up with ne2 voice recognition technology for the fifth version of iOS. Though, Apple had this functionality from a long time, but this time over it is expected to give it a drastic makeover.

Industry pundits now also believe that Apple is not working on a low end iPhone. It was long rumored that Apple would be launching a low priced stripped down version of current iPhone. So, if you were waiting for a cheaper iPhone, then 2011 is not your year.

However, it is not only iPhone segment, which is going to see some action. It is also being speculated that a new white iPod Touch may be in the offering. This rumor had been doing rounds ever since the launch of white iPhone. According to 9to5Mac, Apple may not be making any substantial hardware changes in the personal media player. But it sure would receive a cosmetic makeover in a non-color. These are merely the conjunctures, but we would come to know about the truth on October 4, so it is not that long a wait now.

But it is not going to be all about new additions. The Cupertino company is apparently mulling saying ciao to a couple of its beloved devices. It looks like iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle will not be able to survive the onslaught of touch screen devices. Currently, these two are the only products in their segment not to have a touch screen, so it looks like that in a bid to streamline its offerings, the company may decide to withdraw these music players. TUAW has claimed that it has insider news about the demise of iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle. It also makes sense, as in the din of iPhone 5 rumors, we really never get to hear about the update iPods.

iPod Classic, released almost 10 years back, may have some nostalgic value, but over the years, iPhone has emerged as a powerful and more versatile option. If Apple does decide to kill of iPod Shuffle and Classic, then Nano would become the entry level media player with a starting price point of $149. iPod Shuffle was priced $49 upwards. In this case, it is also possible that the company may drop iPod Nano price, in order to make it more affordable. Apple had also been dropping vague hints about impending ‘product transition’, so probably bidding adieu to these two iPods is really on the cards.

Now, that we have less than a week left for ‘let’s talk’ event, what are your speculations about the product announcements?

IFA, Europe’s largest tech show, is now in full swing with the world’s top tech companies showing off a load of new products during the five days extravaganza.

Over the years IFA has had many amazing moments; Albert Einstein gave the keynote speech about the future of Radio in 1930. In 1967 PAL colour televisions made their debut, and then in 1981 the CD player made its public debut.

Even before the show opened, IFA 2011 announcements started to come in. Here’s what’s been announced so far from Sony and Samsung.

Sony

Sony has had really busy IFA so far with the full unveil of their two new Android tablets, a new android-based walkman, a new Xperia Arc, Sony Reader and 3D Vaio all-in-one desktop.

Sony unveiled it 9.4-inch S1 tablet to attendees for the first time and it will be available across Europe from September 16.

It will come in two flavours: 16GB and 32GB with Wi-Fi and 3G. The Honeycomb tablet will have dual 5-megapixel camera and 0.3 front facing camera.

The S tablet will cost €479 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only model, which put it into competition with the iPad 2, Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Sony’s other tablet P (S2) comes with a folding clamshell design and dual 5-inch screens is not so competitively priced, unfortunately.

It will be available in November and is going to cost you an eye-watering €599 – we can’t see the P being a massive success even considering it eye-catching design – the price just seems too high.

Both tablets will run Android Honeycomb 3.1 out of the box and will be fully upgradable to 3.2 in the near future, though if you plump for the Wi-Fi and 3G model you will get 3.2 preloaded.

Sony’s official Playstation certification comes with both tablets, which will mean a whole host of Playstation titles will be available to play, along with more Playstation network content after launch.

Sony also unveiled a new version of their top-selling Android phone the Xperia Arc. The Arc is one the top phones around at the moment and the Arc S looks to improve upon the recipe.

They’ve upgraded the processor to a 1.4GHz, meaning the camera starts 25% quicker and media conversion has been given a bump too.

Sony also unveiled a 6-inch eReader – the Sony Reader Wi-Fi PRS-T1 – to take on the Amazon Kindle. It weighs just 168 grams and is 8.9mm thick. The PRS-T1 features a one month battery life, is available in black, white and red and will allow borrowing from local libraries.

In the PC arena, Sony showed off its Vaio L 3D, or Vaio VPCL21S1E/B to give it its full name – an all-in-one desktop with a 24-inch Full HD Vaio LED backlight screen.

Sony showed off a new prototype Walkman at IFA – the Android-based media player is looking to cash-in on some of the good-will left in the Sony brand.

A Sony Android walkman has been touted since 2009 and it actually looks like Sony is finally going to be releasing it “soon”. But is it too late to try and take on the iPod and iTunes?

It sports a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen, is compatible with Bluetooth headphones and comes with mini-HDMI port.

The HDMI and DLNA suggests a home media device, but what about your TV shows and movies? You’ll be wanting a set-top box for that, and a hi-fi for your music. It doesn’t seem to fit in anywhere, does it?

Samsung

Samsung have had a busy IFA too, with the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi and its new Galaxy Note.

The Galaxy WiFi is their version of an iPod touch and is loosely based on the Galaxy S phone. The media player comes with a 3.6-inch HGVA screen, an ultra-faster 1GHz OMAP processor.

The media player will be running Android 2.3 ginger bread and will support a wide range of video and audio formats allowing users hassle-free compatibility.

SoundAlive provides users with the ability to adjust sound levels to fit the song they are listening to or the film they are watching, ensuring a professional and rich audio experience
. Users can communicate with friends in numerous ways using the device’s WiFi connectivity.

Users can make voice or video calls over the internet, using platforms such as Google Talk to stay in touch.

The device also includes Social Hub, which means that when connected to the internet users can access a variety of social networking services as well as email and instant messaging platforms from a single inbox.

Samsung also showed off their latest Tablet the Samsung Galaxy Note. The Note comes with world’s largest AMOLED screen, coming in at 5.6-inches the tablet looks more like a giant media player rather than a tablet.

The superior screen also offers a 180 degree viewing angle, allowing contents to be shared comfortably.

At 5.3-inch the best-in-class display is the largest ever included in a primary mobile device; measuring just 9.65mm thick, the Galaxy Note fits comfortably in a pocket to offer true portability.

The Galaxy Note’s advanced pen input functionality is combined with the full touch screen to create a new input experience. The incorporated digital S Pen can be used for accurate sketching and artwork, and instantly capturing ideas freely before they float away.

The Galaxy Note features S Memo, a multimedia application designed to record all forms of user-created content; pictures, voice recordings, typed text, handwritten notes or drawings can all be captured via a single application and converted to a ‘memo’, to be edited, annotated and shared as desired.

The 1.4GHz dual-core processor ensures the device is incredibly fast and a smooth user interface ensures seamless usability. Lightning fast network speeds are enabled through the HSPA+ and LTE-enabled device’s super-fast connection, ensuring a quick and seamless browsing experience. This means that users can stream videos in real-time or engage with their friends through online gaming platforms.

Cloud computing is the hottest tech segment and the competition is getting more and more intense. Like every other field, where fiercer competition leads to better products and services, cloud computing is also bringing around sweeter deals for the consumers. Amazon is one of the bigger and older players in the segment and is currently facing the heat of competition from Apple. No wonder, it is now stepping up its game and is in the process of revamping its Cloud Drive.

First off, Amazon is trying to lure new customers by offering unlimited music space. However, it would be applicable only for the limited time. However, if you buy your music from Amazon MP3 music store, then you can keep your purchases on Cloud Drive for free and these items would not be counted against your storage quota. Amazon has also released its Cloud Player for iPad. So now, you can access your Amazon music library from your iPad as well. Earlier, the library was accessible through Android devices and PCs. Cloud Player is now compatible with Safari browser too.

Amazon had launched its Cloud Drive and Cloud Player in March this year and with the latest updates, these services are now accessible through Android devices, PCs and Apple devices. It offers 5 GB of free space and if you have bigger library then you can opt for paid plans starting from $20 a year.
