Instead of the usual visual of a sales team in matching T-Shirts, we were treated to steel sculptures of Optimus Prime, Predator and a Transformer all over 6ft tall and all made entirely from scrap metal- steel to be specific.

There is no better heaven for your old 1984 Ford Escort, than by bringing it to life again in the shape of a larger-than-life Darth Vader.

Not every sculpture was taller than a street lamp though. Most items on sale could easily fit in your palm, or in a regular shopping bag which would make for the perfect mantelpiece display next to your mum’s bone china plate.

All materials used in constructing these feasts for the eye were recycled from cars, motorbikes and even airplanes, which makes for a good way to sneak some fighter jet into your world.

If you have a certain item or character that you’d love to see embodied in twisted metal, the guys at RoboSteel take requests and say proudly that they can make anything from steel. Sounds like a challenge to me…

To get your hands on a mega steel sculpture, you do need to have saved up a bit. A 2.4 metre sculpture of Alien King will set you back around £4,000. If you’re happy with an Easy Rider Bike that can fit on your bookshelf however, that’s only around £22.

In the ad artist Robin Rhodes uses the new-model BMW Z4 as a 306 horsepower paint brush to create an awesome-looking colourful design on both the canvas and the car! Now that’s all well and good but it’s no fun if you don’t get to have a go for yourself, and thankfully you do, well kind of.

Unfortunately BMW aren’t dishing out spanking new Z4s and aircraft hangar-sized spaces with which to thrash around its newest creation in a puddle of paint, but if you’ve got a Windows (XP or Vista) PC, a printer, a webcam, a decent graphics card and at least 2GB of RAM then you recreate the experience using 3D state of the art technology from the comfort of your own home, or office – if you’re really trying to avoid work.

It only takes a couple of minutes to do is print out the special 3D Z4 symbol and install the Z4 3D Paintbrush software et voilà, you’re ready to start carving up your virtual canvas with your paint strewn tyres. Once you’re happy with your creation you can share it straight away courtesy of Facebook or Youtube.

Overview

We have all been there; it’s the office pub lunch and you have all finished work earlier to celebrate the boss letting you all off the hook. Only problem is you have taken your car as you live too far away to walk home and a taxi will cost you an arm and a leg.

Review

This gadget looks like one of those torches you get out of an xmas cracker, but with this being priced at under £5.00 could you be really be that surprised?  But while it may look like something you got at your nanas at xmas, it does mean that you can carry it around with you unlike some other ones on the market that are the size of a mobile and do exactly the same thing.

It is also extremely easy to use as well, I even got a friend of mine to use it after he had had around 15 pints so he was a little worse for wear. I could of in-fact have got a movie up of him using it while in the state he was in, but if I did I hear my legs would not be the same again.

The results are accurate and easy to understand, as soon as he blew into the thing it came up red while my des came up green as he was on the cokes.  I came up surprisingly yellow until I realised I had only had around 4 pints and he had been out for the majority of the afternoon.

After my little test drive I can say that it was a lot of fun and can definitely see myself having one. The only problem is that the novelty may wear off and I could get bored quite easily. But before you sign this skateboard as a right off you might want to take a look at the Boom Borda 2 Advanced which can be used for some off-road stunts – if you dare that is!

So, if you’re a stock broker who just took early retirement then at £299.99 for the Boom Borda 2 and at £336.99 for the Boom Borda Advanced it may make a nice investment especially if you’ve decided to ditch the flashy car. For me personally, if it cost less and had a lighter battery I would definitely buy one, check out the video.

The British Motor Show is now approaching its last weekend and I was able to pop down last Sunday to do some schmoozing with Sat Nav Manufacturers like Garmin and TomTom as well as being able to admire some of the most beautiful cars in the world.

If you’re unsure about going then I would definitely recommend that you pop down as there is plenty of metal to get you excited and if you’re a fan of Honda’s ASIMO then you’ll even have the opportunity to see him in the Dreamscape; Honda’s live action show. You’ll get to see the latest version which can now run with both legs off the ground, climb stairs, and shake your hand.

Just before I talk about the cars here’s a little bit about the techie areas. Garmin had a massive presence with a huge exhibition stall showing off the ‘Great British Drives’, however if you find their main stall you’ll get to see them sporting many of their most popular GPS devices and wait for it…a NUVI PHONE (shame it wasn’t the real thing though)! TomTom also have a stand there too and after 2+ years of begging and 1 day of ‘schmoozing’ I managed to get myself a TomTom One XL Traffic to review. Also not forgetting to thank the generous guys at Garmin as well who really showed me around and have sent across a Garmin forerunner for Tanya to review and a Nuvi 860 for me to review. Keep watching this space for these….

Okay so lets skip the nuts and get into the bolts and find out what cars were there and what are my highlights?

Mercedes S-Class

This is pretty much a Gadgeteers dream, I’m not sure why you’d need a home if you had this. Its covered in Gadgets – lads, I’m coming round for a gaming session on the PS3.

Honda OSM

My family are huge Honda fans (at the moment we have 3 Honda’s in the household which kinda gives it away) but when you see what they had on offer they just keep getting stronger. The highlight of their display was the Honda OSM (Open Study Model) which as you can see below is good looking, light and very green.

Mazda Furai

Furai is Japanese for ‘Sound and Wind’, not only meets the aesthetic requirements it’s actually designed for production and is a pure racing machine.

Alpha Romeo 8C Spider

I hear there are only 50 of these destined for the UK and as you can imagine there all sold out.

Lotus Evora

Lotus have put a lot into this car and you can tell by looking at it but I didn’t get close enough to make up my mind.

Lexus LF-A Concept

Still officially a concept the LF-A is well on the way to becoming a production car. Lexus are now looking to take on Porche, Lamborghini and Ferrari with this beast.

Ford Focus RS

This dominated the shows biggest stand as it is one of the years most keenly anticipated cars. I might not be the biggest fan of Ford, I like the Focus RS after test driving the older model.

Nissan GT-R

This is one of my favourites cars, many motor journalists have compared this car to the Bugatti Veyron and at £53k and top speeds of 190MPH (yes, faster than a McLaren SLR and many others) you can imaging there’s a wating list a few years long. Read Jeremy Clarkson’s review

Ferrari F430 Scuderia

After 4 years away, Ferrari is returning to a British motor show, but if you don’t fall in love with the F430 first time…look again.

Jaguar XJ220

As a young boy this car was plastered all over my walls and now for the first time I’ve got to see one, at one point this was the most attractive and fastest car in the world and for quite a while that was too.

Lightning GT

Well, I’m lost for words…..(just admire) and its electric.. It not an Aston if thats what your thinking but I can see how you’d think it was.

Mclaren Mercedes-Benz SLR Roadster

The contract has now come to an end for McLaren and Mercedes so this is probably the last one. This car definitely had its time but was cut short with the Veyron taking away a lot of its lime light.

Zonda S Pagani

This car is just lightning fast.

Koenigsegg

The CCX – What a car!! If you see this car then remember that you may never see one EVER again. Shame I never saw it with the doors open.

Spyker.

This car will not only turn heads, it breaks necks. There were a few Spykers at the show all of which had me mesmerized.

The Ultimate car collection was closed on Sunday and I really wanted to see some of the cars in there, to enter this area costs £100 but if you love cars as much as me you’d pay it. The two cars that I really wanted to see are the Lamborghini Reventon and the Veyron which weren’t at the show until yesturday when the Veyron landed:

The legendary Bugatti Veyron has landed at the Show and is drawing visitors from across the country. The ultra-rare 800cc W16 Veyron with a top speed of 253mph, 1001bhp and a price tag approaching £1m, is bringing visitors from far and wide seeking a glimpse of this phenomenal super car.

Organisers have been inundated with enquiries from legions of enthusiasts about the Veyron which lines up amongst other precious supercar metal in the Ultimate Collection Public Gallery.

Now I really really want to see the Veyron but I am trying to justify whether its really worth for me to go all the way from Leeds to London to see it.
