The stunt by Samsung which was essentially the construction of an interactive miniature football match in London’s most central rail station was part of a joint scheme with ESPN. Their twelve part digital series sets to uncover the principles and dynamics of teamwork while also, of course, illustrating how Samsung’s Mobile technology can enhance the sporting experience.

These days there’s a whole new challenge in the marketing of mobile phones. Never mind telling people why they should buy your new handset, in this saturated market just telling people that your handset exists is a mammoth task and a flash-mob in a busy train station is certainly one way to introduce a new gadget. And let’s be honest if we’re going to get buried alive by advertisements we may as well have a little fun in the meantime.

Harriet Hall, International Account Director of Starcom who helped organise the event said: “In a competitive marketplace it’s hard to launch new handsets in a way that stands out from the crowd. In this collaboration we’ve designed a consumer experience that not only does that, but includes the opportunity for consumers to get hands on with the product.”

So there you have it. Whether you’re interested in the way the Samsung Galaxy Note with its extra-large screen and S-pen will enhance teamwork or if you want to see some street-football check out the video below.

Overview

We all know that Christmas is just around the corner. Almost a week away to be more exact! Apart from partying, eating lots of Turkey and spending time with the family. There will be no doubt that if you’re a gaming fan then Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas if you didn’t have a few rounds on your Xbox 360 or PS3.

Well, if you’re looking to boast about your latest gameplay to all you gaming friends then you might want to invest or get one of your loved ones to buy you Roxio Game Capture to capture all those gaming moments. Roxio Game Capture includes everything you need to capture your Xbox 360 and PS3 gameplay in realtime while playing in HD. Then easily edit your footage, to keep just the action you want, and share on YouTube and other sharing sites – direct from your PC. Roxio Game Capture is an all-in-one product, including Roxio video-editing software, and a powerful Roxio capture device.

Fortunately for us we managed to get hold of one to review to let all you gaming fans know whether it is one to invest or something which is better left on shop shelves.

Review

Set Up: 3/5

Let’s not beat around the bush, there’s a bit of a split in the gaming community when it comes to this device. Some praise it for its extremely easy set-up whilst others are so frustrated by it that they send it back to the shop. The two main complaints are poor video quality and the PC software making laptops crash. When it comes to video quality it seems that many people struggle to find the correct settings to suit their gaming set-up. This is, for some users, a major flaw in the product. Actually hooking up the wires is very easy, as is installing the software which took a few minutes for and worked first time with no signs of lagging or crashing. The problem is altering the display settings on Xbox/PS3 system and televisions. Ultimately if you have a good quality (preferably HD) TV and you know your composites from your SCARTS and your PALS from your HD then you should be fine. If you’re not so knowledgeable when it comes to picture quality then stay away. This device is designed for serious gamers. The reason it scores low is on set-up is that it is marketed as something gloriously easy to install which is not always the case. The instructions aren’t terrible but neither are they the most illuminating in the world.

Value for Money: 3/5

The price of the Xbox/PS3 capture device tends to be around the £65-75 region. If you’re serious about capturing your gaming, whether you’re simply a nerd that likes to show off or your headshots or a blogger/reviewer then you’re going to get a lot of use out of the device for under £100 which is quite a reasonable price. Another popular capture device is Dazzle which is slightly more expensive at around £90-£95. So in context £65 is good value for money. If you’re paid for your footage you’ll get the money back in a few reviews time. You can go down the DIY route but this is notoriously difficult and will probably involve ordering a tonne of cables and spending hours digging around forums. One minus for Roxio’s device is that some users may need to buy a composite cable to use the capture function and this isn’t included.

Features and Design: 5/5

The quality of the box is fantastic. It’s light, strong and actually looks pretty cool. It’s not going to look ugly stacked up next to your game console. The wires on the other hand may, but they are unavoidable and with some careful planning you could set the box up nicely with the wires tucked out of sight. You will of course have to find somewhere for your laptop/computer to sit as you will have the device hooked up to your computer via USB. What’s more, the wires are gold-plated which is a nice touch for a cheap(ish) device. The software ran great for me, even on my bog-standard Windows 7 laptop. There’s enough editing software to suit any capture needs and it is very easy to use. One word of warning though -memory- make sure you have enough to save the files you plan to save.

Gaj-it Verdict: 4/5

A good device but it requires a top-end TV and reasonable knowledge of gaming to truly shine. Some users will find it frustrating and it may not be quite good enough for professional game reviews/bloggers who need super-high end capture quality.

Roxio Game Capture

It’s been well over a year since the Playstation Move was released and it had seemed that it was all but forgotten. But in the build-up to Christmas Sony are keen to push the motion controlling device back into the public consciousness.

I’m no video-game expert but it’s fair to say that some people are put off by the misconception that motion gaming is a gimmick which is dominated by lame yoga and dance games. The first step to combat that problem is GoldenEye Reloaded. You must have seen the adverts on television? One of the greatest games of all time remodelled especially for the PS Move. What could be cooler than imagining that your PS Move baton is a rocket launcher and blowing the living hell out of a helicopter with it? If James Bond isn’t up your street or your still not convinced by Move then Sony have the perfect advertisement campaign for you.

In order to express the immersive quality of the Move Sony have created bizarre (but very fun) interactive video which shows four different people stuck in a weird PlayStation world fighting the standard video game enemies- apes and evil chefs. Your job is to choose which weapon to transform your all-mighty PS Move device into. You then get to see the result of your choice which is often hilarious. It’s an effective advert, you’d be lying if you said you didn’t want to be in the mad Playstation world yourself swinging the Move around like a magic wand. But don’t worry if you do fall for the advert, the Move comes with a wrist strap…

We’ve embedded the video below for you pleasure. Have a look and let us know what ‘weapons’ you choose!

Urbanista are a Stockholm-based design concept shop which produce products geared towards the needs and fashions of urban living. They’re latest project is a series of headphones and earphones designed for urban life and adorably named after large urban environments, i.e. famous cities around the world. We’ve got our hands on a pair of their Copenhagen headphones which we have tested for you gadget lovers. So let’s get into it, are they any good? We’re grading the headphones on three sections, style, function and sound quality.

Style: 4.5/5

Constructed from steel they have the edge over plastic in both strength and style. Simple, understated steel is often a great look for gadgets especially ones like headphones which you will wear, and simplicity is certainly the approach Urbanista have taken with these headphones. That’s not a bad thing either. If you want to show people you’re wacky you can get a pair of Skull Candy headphones. The Copenhagens are modern and stylish for people who don’t want to draw attention to their headphones but don’t want to by wearing something clumpy, awkward and ugly. We’re rocking the white version but there are six different colours available. As far as headphones go they are very smart (at least from a distance) the trapezoid shaped leather speakers are futuristic and edgy, much nicer looking than big round speakers. Unfortunately up close they look a tad cheap because of the flimsy plastic hinges and the horrible foam squares which are bound to discolour over a short space of time. Ultimately they are very nice, just not as nice as they think they are.

Function: 3/5

The headphones fold up easily much like a pair of sunglasses and they come with a lovely box for transportation. Function is where these guys come into their own as an urban tool. They are lightweight and when they are folded they are small enough to be chucked into a bag without taking up too much room. You would need a big pocket to carry them in your jacket, but it wouldn’t be impossible especially if you dig your big winter coat out.

They also come with a built-in mic for your smartphone which is a convenient little feature and the shoe lace style wire is feels much stronger than the traditionally shaped wire plus it tangles a lot less. Going back to style, it looks cool too. One big tick in the box is that apart from the plastic hinges, the rest of the design feels fairly sturdy and they seem like they will prove to be very reliable in the long-term.

Sound Quality: 3/5

I have to be honest, I think the sound quality is quite poor. They have managed to get a nice level of bass in there which is the hardest thing to do with headphones so well done to Urbanista for not neglecting the lower frequencies like a Hell of a lot of headphones do. But one of the most basic and most irritating flaws of these headphones is their oddly shaped speakers. Sure they look very cool, but they are far from snug and there is a lot of leakage.

The lack of volume control is also annoying. They seem designed to simply blast music into you at high volumes with no real thought in the actual quality of the sound. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t crackle or fizzle or buzz, but they don’t bring out the best in music either.

Gaj-it Verdict: 3/5

They are stylish, portable and urban. They’ll be a great addition to a teen’s wardrobe but not so much for an avid music fan or audiophile.

But I’ll try, and the best way to convince you to take the plunge and invest in high quality earphones is to discuss the multitude of problems with cheap, plastic earphones that we all deny, though we know perfectly well they exist. I’m talking about the fact they fall apart- the foam falls off the buds and the wire gets frayed. I’m talking about not being able to hear the uber-quiet bits of a song like the band chatting in the background. I’m talking about missed frequencies and crackly, metallic tones. I’m talking about people looking at you funny because your jazz compilation is spilling out of your ears and into the quiet midday bus.

Have I made my point?

So let’s look at the alternative, Atomic Floyd’s new flagship product the ‘SuperDarts.’

Build quality & features: 5/5

Atomic Flyod use only the best materials to build their SuperDarts. We’re talking high-end stuff here titanium, steel, Kevlar and gold as opposed to plastic, plastic, plastic. Is Gold and Kevlar just sheer extravagance? Well I see that the components sound like the make-up of a tank more than earbuds, but titanium is so strong it takes its name from the Greek Titans. This means the Darts are tough and solid, you can literally feel the quality in them. As for the gold anyone who has vague knowledge of sound engineering will know why that’s there.

The eartips are made from SoftSeal silicone. They fit like a glove and ensure 2-way noise isolation to block out any annoying background noise which is very relaxing when you want to zone-out from the hustle and bustle.

As for features, the Darts come with a remote which provides full control of playback and volume, as well as seamless switching between music and chat (they have full iPhone and iPad compatibility).

It doesn’t stop there either, the cable is anti-tangle and the plug is armored and goldplated. Now you get an idea of how good the build-quality is.

The style: 4/5

I think you can tell this from the huge section of text above, but the company aren’t interested in how fashionable their buds are, they’re interested in supplying the very best quality possible.

“We don’t want anyone wearing a pair of Floyds because a celebrity has endorsed them” they say. That’s all well and good, but if you have earphones dangling from your head in public, you don’t want them to look ugly do you? Fortunately these guys are stylish, minimalist and come in a range of colours.

The sound quality: 5/5

This may seem like a get out clause, but it really is difficult to put sound into words. I can say crisp, smooth, pure, intense, and absorbing which all describe the beautiful sound quality of the Darts, but you really have to hear to believe. They are sold in Apple stores, so why not pop in and ask for a demo.

Gaj-it verdict: 5/5

Stylish earphones unrivaled in quality, for people who want only the best from their music.

Available at http://www.atomicfloyd.com/ and Apple Stores for £199.00

Here we go again it’s Christmas shopping time and from now until Christmas Eve we will be running around gathering gifts for our loved and not-so-loved ones. Some of us are great at shopping and will manage to find a unique and special gift perfectly tailored for its receiver but the vast majority of us will be wrapping up the ubiquitous bottles of whiskey and pairs of festive socks.

Here in the tech world the number one lazy gift is speakers. I mean, you can’t go wrong really, if you buy someone a pair of speakers they will ‘get used’, but why settle for a pair of boring second rate portable speakers or a supermarket-standard iPod dock when there’s some epic music lover’s toys out there!

The Pocket Boom Portable Vibration speaker is one of them. So what’s so great about it? Check out our review and find out.

Portability: 5/5

At last a company who truly understands portable. This speaker is small enough to fit in your pocket and can be taken and used literally anywhere. It’s a magical, sticky, battery powered pad that you attach to anything you please and turn said object into an epic booming speaker. And I mean anything. Your office desk, a teacup at home, your car door when you’re on the move, a lamppost when your outside. The pad will turn almost anything into a speaker.

Features: 3/5

The 3.5mm jack allows it to connect to almost any media device you can find. There’s not much else than the speaker and the jack. Controls are, basic. You can turn the thing on and off but the volume controls are limited and there’s no equalisers are anything like that, but come on this isn’t a studio monitor it’s a potable speaker designed with portability in mind. One neat little bonus feature is its ability to charge via USB whilst you’re running from home/office which helps to save battery life.

Quality: 4/5

You would expect a pocket size, battery powered speaker to be very flimsy but this thing is rugged. It could certainly cope with a festival or two. One issue is the sticky pad which will lose its sticky at some point but a replacement pad is supplied so, not major issue by any means unless you plan to give the thing an insane hammering. Sound wise it’s what you would expect, it amplifies the volume of your media device without tainting the quality too much but certainly not improving it a great deal.

Gaj-it verdict: 5/5

It’s a great Christmas gift for audiophiles and at a smidgen under £19.99 it’s great value. Don’t expect to plug this thing onto an empty plastic cup and host a rave but if you like to give you day soundtrack and you hate the muted, tiny sound of cheap earphones and in-built mobile speakers then this little piece of kit will liberate your music.

The Pocket Boom is available from the 1st of December at mobilefun.co.uk

But life’s too short to have bad days! Despite its importance the humble alarm clock is a neglected household item. Most of us will either use our mobile phones and one of their horrendous, soul scrunching ringtones or we will use one of them little black travel alarm clocks from the catalogue which are fine until they run out of battery or go metal and start to go off at their own desire.

Functionality: 3.5/5

Waking up to a favorite song is a pleasant way to awake. However, the chosen song eventually loses all its attractiveness when it becomes fused with the thought of cold mornings and work. But thankfully the charmingly named Tick Tock Dock is an alarm clock which has it all. The iPhone/iPod dock come alarm clock allows you to wake up to your favorite songs in beautiful quality and with enough volume to actually wake you and when you begin to feel a murderous rage as soon as you hear the songs from your playlist you can switch the dock to its FM radio mode and let somebody else choose which tune to begin your day.

But iPod docks aren’t new and neither are radio alarm clocks, but this is a useful hybrid which can wake you up with music and keep the grooves going throughout the day. With iPod and iPhone connectivity plus the FM radio (24 stations) and an auxiliary input for even more audio connectivity this is a versatile gadget, but it’s a shame there’s no DAB and on the whole it brings nothing new to the table.

Sound Quality: 4/5

Two 360° degree omni-directional full range speakers allow for rich, multi-directional sound that can be easily controlled using a docked iPod/iPhone. For an alarm clock the sound quality is exceptional and is one of the main pluses of this gadget, but it’s now boom box so don’t expect it to jump from the bedside to the party. But if you want to listen to your playlist while you relax in your bedroom and you want more than earphones can offer than this will more than do.

Style: 5/5

Looks wise, this is a gadget that delivers. The vintage alarm clock shape (as you can see in the above photo) works as a great frame for any shiny little iPod/iPhone and it won’t look out of place on any bedside cabinet no matter how fashion conscious the resident is. It’s classic looking, but modern and what’s more, it comes in a range of colours: black, silver, and beige

Gaj-it Verdict: 4/5

A classic Christmas or Birthday gift. There’s a million and one of these types of gadgets out there and this one brings absolutely nothing new to the market. What it relies on is quality. Every aspect of it has been well designed and well-constructed. If there is someone out there who owns an iPod and still hasn’t got a dock (or has recently broken one) then look no further.)

The Tick Tock Clock is available at Amazon for £59.99

Despite the fact it’s the 21st Century, keeping control of your social life can at times prove a demanding task. Think for instance of trying to get hold of somebody who’s number you have lost. Without a phone number, you’ve got two options, get your journalist hat on and set out on an investigation to find the lost number, or pop on your bike and go to their house, the later would be quite a pain if you live in John’O’Groats and they live in Lands End

Another issue is event invitations. The paper invitations like those you used to get from your school friends in primary school are a pain to write out and seem a bit tacky especially if the event is something low-key like a reunion or BBQ, and mass-texting is expensive and sometimes problematic. You don’t want to accidently invite your Gran to an Anne Summer’s party!

The point here is that in the digital age at the height of the social-network revolution, the traditional mobile communications; texting and calling can seem outdated. So how do you keep connected to your friends and family?

What we need is a centralised communications hub for all our friends and acquaintances, sounds like Facebook doesn’t it?

Well, Facebook may very well be the answer to quick, efficient and free (bar the cost of internet connection) communication. It’s a phrase that is perhaps overused these days but with Facebook, you can always stay connected. Or, more accurately you can always stay connected if you have a smartphone designed to complement Facebook. Most phones have some sort of Facebook app, but a simple newsfeed program isn’t going to offer the future of social organisation. HTC however are bringing us the next level of Facebook on the go. Their two latest handsets the Cha Cha and the Salsa (an 02 exclusive) have been built with one thing in mind. You can guess what that one thing is.

It’s a simple idea but it could be an attractive one to some smartphone users. HTC’s one touch to Facebook feature allows you to post whatever you want (a photo or video for example) on your wall with the hit of just one button; simple.

That’s not all, the new HTC Facebook widget lets you select the friends and family whose updates you’re interested in, so you can always see them on your home screen. Plus Facebook chat gives you the ability to talk to anyone at anytime, and unlike a text you know if they’ve got your message or not. As well as these standard Facebook mobile features, there are some more subtle, clever little features, like Facebook calendar for example which lists event dates and friends birthdays in a convenient calendar, so you don’t miss out.

It sounds good doesn’t it, but the question is, which handset is for you? Are you a touchscreen fan or a physical QWERTY fan? Both handsets come with Android and HTC sense, a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash and a VGA front camera as well as a CPU Processing Speed of 800 MHz. But Cha Cha offers a stylish physical keyboard whilst the Salsa comes loaded with a 3.4-inch touch screen with 480 x 320 resolution.

To find out more about HTC and Facebook watch the video here or head over to the O2 web page or the Facebook page (where there is a Facebook quiz to prove your social-networking knowledge.)

It’s that time of the year again, when T3 release their nominations for the T3 awards. You can head over to their website now and vote for your chance to big up your favourite gadgets and also possibly when a new tele. I just voted and here’s a little rundown of some of my choices and a little bit about why I choose them.

Innovation of the year- 3DS

It had to be didn’t it? Even if its success was dubious it was certainly the most innovative piece of tech; changing the way we can experience 3D. With the new addition of apps such as Netflix the 3DS could continue to wow consumers for the next few years. It’s not only revolutionised 3D, but portable gaming too.

Gaming Gadget- Kinect

Rather than lazily giving the 3DS another vote, Kinect gets the gaming gadget award. Why? Because it’s freed us from the controller and given us a taste of the future. What’s really cool is the hacks and mods that have shown just how awesome the Kinect can be, especially when hooked up to a PC.

Commuter Gadget- Kindle

As a fan of the physical book (I say fan I mean absolute fanatic) I don’t quite like the idea of the Kindle, I don’t want Ebooks to replace the good old paper book. But where I can see the appeal of the Kindle is commuting and traveling. If you’re lugging things to and from work you don’t want the weight of a couple of chunky novels, the Kindle puts a library in your hand when you really need a book to pass the time on a long train journey.

Digital Media Service- Twitter

Frankly, I’m bored of Facebook and I think a lot of people are, it’s a quick and free way to contact friends and that’s as far as it goes for me. I’ve stopped caring what flavour of crisps people are having for breakfast. But Twitter is the true revolutionary. With Twitter we can contact with people who share our interests meaning we can have fun and make some connections. Plus Tweets tend to be much more intelligent than Posts and the word limit puts a stop to waffle.

Phone Of The Year- HTC Incredible S

I’ll be honest, I don’t know a Hell of a lot about the Incredible S but for me every HTC smartphone at the moment seems at the top of its game. iPhone 4 will no doubt win the dong but it really shouldn’t Android and HTC is a perfect partnership.

Tech Brand of the Year-HTC

Come on they’re on fire aren’t they?

Work Gadget- ipad 2

Like the kindle, the iPad freaks me out a bit, I wouldn’t however say no to one. The work environment gives it a real chance to shine and proves that it’s more than a novelty. And by work, I don’t just mean academics and journalists; everyone from airline pilots and doctors to construction workers are all adopting the iPad because it’s just so damn useful.

So, what gets your vote?

Lulzec said they had finished the voyage of cyber mischief, then the arrests came and now they’re as active as ever. There’s been plenty of Tweets from the activists warning the police that they are still intact despite operations from the FBI and UK Ecrime division. They’ve hacked some powerful corporations (like Paypal and Sony) but what they do next could secure infamy.

As hack-gate gets darker and deeper Lulzec claim to have a nuke which could blow the whole situation sky high and send repercussions around the world.

The group claim to have 4GB of emails taken from the Sun they also appear to have the email addresses and passwords of News International staff including Rebekah Brooks. This isn’t the first attack on the media giants either. The hactivists in a recent, rather sick prank, set up fake pages reporting ‘the death of Rupert Murdoch’ and hacked the Sun’s online page to redirect users to the fabricated news story.

Unsurprisingly News International aren’t taking the threat lightly and has stopped all external access to its webmail systems and has forced users to reset their passwords.

The group say that they may release the data as earlier as this afternoon. The cyber-attacks follow comedy Jonny Marble’s attempt to ‘custard pie’ Murdoch. Clearly there’s a lot of anger directed at News International and if there’s anything incriminating in the leaked emails, things could get a whole lot worse.
