March 26th in Miami saw Sony Ercisson launch the new T707. The company teamed up with tennis star and style icon, Maria Sharapova.

“The T707 is the next step in the style evolution from Sony Ericsson,” said Linda Schori, Global Marketing Business Manager for Style Category, Sony Ericsson. “Maria Sharapova is the perfect partner for us as she exemplifies not only elegance but also substance, just like the T707. It works hard and is also sleek, glamorous and desirable – a truly winning combination!”

The alluring clamshell handset weighs just 95 grams and has a 14.1mm depth. It comes in 3 colours to suit your personality; Mysterious Black, Spring Rose and Lucid Blue.

The petite 2.2inch TFT screen is scratch resistant and has a 262k colour, 240×320 pixel display. Externally, the handset features a tiny 1.1inch scratch resistant OLED screen with a monochromatic, 128x36pixel display.

The T707 is all about style and features changing wallpaper themes that alter from day into the evening. Another cool characteristic is the unique ‘light effects’. The phone lights up when you receive a call and you can personalise light settings for each of your contacts.

The handset also has gesture control, so for example if you want to snooze your alarm in the morning, simply wave your hand over the phone! Now that’s what I need. No more fiddling around trying to find the snooze option. I inevitably end up turning off the alarm and running late for work!

The T707’s other features include:

A 3.2 megapixel camera with 3.2x digital zoom, photo fix, picture blogging, video blogging, video recording and video light.

Music player with Mega Bass™, Album Art, PlayNow™, TrackID™, Bluetooth stereo (A2DP). Popular supported formats include MP3 and AAC.

Entertainment such as YouTube™, 3D and motion gaming, Java, FM radio with RDS, video streaming and video viewing.

Access NetFront™ Web browser with web shortcut search key, web feeds and photo feeds.

Organiser tools with alarm clock, calculator, calendar, flight mode, notes, stopwatch, tasks and timer and sound recorder.

Geo-tagging of photos and Google Maps™.

SMS, MMS, Chat View, Email and Exchange ActiveSync®.

Facts and Figures:

The T707 has a 100MB internal memory and support for a M2™ micro memory card.

Talktime is up to 10 hours, video call time is up to 2 hours and standby time is up to 400 hours.

Connectivity includes Bluetooth, modem, synchronisation, USB mass storage and USB support.

“The T707 is my ultimate new accessory,” said Maria. “I am always on the go and I need a phone that is easy to use, and of course chic as well! I never miss a call with the eye-catching light effects and personalised pulsation settings and I love the fact that I can just wave my hand to mute a call using the gesture control. I can also use my practical and stylish Bluetooth™ Headset HBH-PV715 to take my calls, check my emails and blog to my website from the phone. It’s great to have a phone that looks good but also lets me keep up-to-date with everything I need.”

The T707 is a mid-range handset that’s more about style than top of the range features. It will be available in selected markets in Q2.

Although exact details of how Dan came across this information cannot be revealed, it was apparently very simple.

Here’s a taster image below of the list of names and addresses. Bitterwallet have checked it out and confirm the list is real.

Thankfully, it was only names and addresses and nothing more. And if you’re reading this thinking that names and addresses are an identity thief’s paradise, then what are we still doing with phone directories? Have you looked at a the BT Phone Book recently? You’ll find the exact same thing there (unless of course you’re ex directory).

The main issue here is security. And it is worrying that with just a few clicks of a mouse and a little curiosity, your basic snooper can access information on this scale. 3 is a pretty large company, so what happened here? No passwords, encryptions, anything?

Bitterwallet contacted 3, informing them of just how simple it was to access this information. Hopefully they’ll be working towards improving their security.

Have an opinion? Let us know.

March 24th saw the launch of a new online video game distribution network – OnLive – at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

OnLive promises instant access to the most advanced, high-quality games in the world. Big promise! Some say it could very well provide competition for the likes of Playstation, Xbox and the Wii.

Company founder, Steve Perlman, boasts that OnLive is the most powerful game system in the world. He goes on to say, “No high-end hardware, no upgrades, no endless downloads, no discs, no re-calls, no obsolescence. With OnLive, your video game experience is always state-of-the-art”.

Perlman advises that using a newly developed data compression technology, games are powered on remote servers rather than on games consoles.

Users can choose from a catalogue of games stored on these data servers and will be able to download games instantly, either straight onto their PC or Mac, or through the OnLive MicroConsole.

According to BBC Technology News, initial responses from the likes of GamePro, Kotaku.com and VentureBeat have been mixed. Some have been sceptical, whilst others have found the experience positive and have been impressed.

Cesar A. Beradini of TeamXbox.com said, “The real question is what would happen if this actually works as promised? Is it the end of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo as console manufacturers?”

OnLive will charge a monthly fee and users will need a high speed internet connection. It is expected to launch in Winter 2009.

After seven years of development, Perlman says a new era for gaming is here. Could the top gaming consoles really become a thing of the past? Let us know your thoughts.

Check out more at OnLive.com and see Perlman’s presentation at GameSpot.com

And, perhaps, stupid. Let’s take Sat Navs for example. How many people in the UK alone do you reckon use a Sat Nav? Well, if that Sat Nav told you to jump in a fire, would you? If it directed you to the edge of a cliff, would you follow? No! Darn right you wouldn’t!

But believe it or not, somebody did! A 43 year old man old from South Yorkshire followed the instructions on his Sat Nav, that told him the steep path he was following in Todmordon, West Yorkshire was a road. He only stopped when his BMW hit a fence.

Okay, sure, it probably shouldn’t have happened and so many people rely on their Sat Navs to get where they need to be. But, surely there’s a point where common sense kicks in and you think to yourself, “hmm… this doesn’t seem right…” Obviously not with some people!

The South Yorkshire man was subsequently arrested and summoned to Court for driving without due care and attention. Rightly so!

Have you had any, erm… ’interesting’ Sat Nav adventures you want to share? Leave us a comment below.

“Movies direct from the Hollywood Studios showcase our new Samsung touch screen phones such as the Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition with its industry leading high quality AMOLED screen”, said Nick Turner-Samuels, Head of Content at Samsung Mobile UK. “We’re very excited to be able to provide existing and future customers access to their favourite movies and TV shows across a number of different Samsung platforms. On top of this, it’s all in superior picture and sound quality to the standard currently available in the market.”

“Samsung’s video enabled phones powered by the new movie service open up a whole new experience for consumers. We are delighted to be Samsung’s partner in this major step that gives customers instant access to the latest Hollywood titles as well as lots of other content,” said Rolf Uwe Placzek, CEO, Acetrax.

The only compatible handset at the current time is the Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition, which has a beautifully bright and clear 2.8” display and over 4 hours continuous movie viewing time. Undoubtedly more handsets will be available throughout the year.

Samsung also plan to expand this service to MP3 and MP4 players, notebooks and Samsung TVs.

Samsung Movies will initially be rolled out in the UK and Germany, becoming available to other European markets later this year.

Downloads are available for either a 24-hour rental, starting at £2.49 or to own, from £4.99.

Following the hype of MWC, ASUS last week announced the launch of the ASUS P835 smartphone. The title of their press release states ‘ASUS Raises the Bar for Mobile Web Surfing and Multimedia Enjoyment with P835′… so let’s take a quick look at what it’s got to offer.

The P835 is an attractive, black and silver candybar handset with a leather-style trim just below the screen. It weighs 148grams with a 13.8mm thickness.

With a 3.5inch TFT 65k colour WVGA touchscreen (800x480pixels) the P835 promises unprecedented clarity whether surfing the internet, watching movies or viewing photos.

A trackball and choice of a 12-key mode, half-QWERTY and full-QWERTY make for easy navigation and text input, whatever the task.

The handset uses a Qualcomm 7201 A 528MHz processor and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. OS. It has 288MB SDRAM, 256MB ROM, a 4GB internal memory and microSD slot with SDHC support.

The handset has USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and GPS with A-GPS support. And the 1100mAh Lithium battery will give you 350 hours standby time and 6 – 7 hours talktime.

The P835 features HSUPA 7.2Mbps and WiFi with internet access via the Opera Mobile browser. The P835 also has the ability to function as a WiFi access point, sharing its HSPA with up to 10 devices, such as PDAs or laptops.

The ‘New Glide’ UI is an updated and enhanced version of ASUS’ ‘Glide’ UI. New Glide boasts new icons for improved user interaction and includes various themes for personalisation.

Features include Office Mobile (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc), Adobe, Windows Live,YouTube, Flickr, EziMusic, EziPhoto, Google Search and RSS Reader – to name but a few.

The phone has a 5.0mp camera – nothing fantastic in terms of camera phones, however good for smartphones as they seem to lack a good quality snapper. There’s also a front facing camera for video calls.

Unfortunately, not even the press release gave details of possible pricing or availability, so we’ll just have to wait and see!

The newest in their smartphone line-up is the LG-GM730.

It is the first smartphone to use the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, along with Internet Explorer 6.0 for an ‘enhanced web experience’. It also uses the new 3D S-Class User Interface, first announced on the LG Arena.

“The combination of Windows Mobile and our new 3D S-Class User Interface will make the LG-GM730 the most functional and easiest to use smartphone ever created,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “This phone is a springboard for us. We will launch a number of smartphones this year; most of them will follow this same winning formula.”

The GM730 incorporates a slim, smooth and seamless profile, with rounded edges and a large touchscreen. Unfortunately, not all specs are available at the moment; LG inform that they will be available soon.
