Chinese company Lenovo has made a number of unique phone designs and the forthcoming OPhone is truly a standout. If you were looking forward to the T-Mobile G1 and its Google Android operating system, you ought to give the OPhone a look.

Also sporting the much heralded Android OS, Lenovo’s OPhone features a design that will make T-Mobile and HTC jealous. Somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone, the OPhone (hmmm, interesting naming) is a mere 1mm bigger than the original iPhone with dimensions of 115.84 x 61.57 x 12.03mm. It is rumored to support microSD cards up to 16GB, offer an English/Chinese virtual keyboard and has Bluetooth 2.0. iPhone owners will be jealous of the 5.0MP camera with video support and the removable battery.

First leaked into the news about a month ago, the Lenovo OPhone has been speculated on heavily and small leaks have been making their way to the public since then. It was recently released that China’s largest cell phone carrier, China Mobile, will be offering the OPhone to its customers. Not only is China Mobile the largest provider in China, it is the world’s largest cell carrier with over 400 million subscribers – dwarfing the entire UK population of 60 million.

While Lenovo has committed to releasing the OPhone sometime this quarter, there were a couple delays that have prevented it from being released sooner. It appears the software developers were having trouble adapting the Android OS to the double-byte character set of the Chinese language. China also only recently started distributing 3G licenses to carriers and there are reports of some bugs during testing of the TD-SCDMA standard used there.

But in the end, all of this is for naught dear UK readers. Lenovo has not to-date released any of their phones outside the Chinese market and the OPhone does not look like it will be any different. However the good news for Lenovo is that it should sell well, as there are reports of illegal T-Mobile G1′s being imported and unlocked at a cost of over £350.

So when I came across the Advent KC550 in Pink…yes Pink, I felt a fluttery feeling of love the way I do for shoes, which I don’t think I have ever felt that way for a machine before. This means that now us ladies can own a laptop and keep up-to-date with all the latest gossip on Facebook whilst still looking fab!

Now for the techie bit. With an Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.6 GHz Processor, 2 GB Memory and 120 GB Hard Drive, don’t be surprised if you can’t use this for some high spec gaming however for using the standard office applications, checking emails and Facebook this laptop is perfect. What’s even great about the Advent KC550 is that if you’re on the road, then it is light and small enough to fit neatly into your designer handbag.
