Every walk of life has its stars and most tech savvy people have heard of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates but one name which is less well known but is equally destined to be remembered in the annals of history is Frederick P. Brooks, Jr.
He is best known as the “father of the IBM System/360,” having served as project manager for its development. He wrote a famous software engineering book, about the lessons learned from OS/360, called The Mythical Man-Month and now, 35 years later, Frederick P. Brooks, Jr. has written another book, this time not about software but about design.

The great thing about the screen resolution of the iPhone is that it is similar to the screen resolutions used by older games and as a result some great classic games have been ported to the iPhone and iPod Touch. One of the all-time classic adventure games, Broken Sword, has recently been released for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
As we approach the end of 2009 let us whisk back quickly in history to the end of 2007. Just two years ago Asus launched the Eee PC 700 and 701 and started the netbook revolution. Previously the PC industry had been moving ahead with only one aim, bigger and bigger, faster and faster. Then Asus realised that you don’t need a dual core processor with 4GB of memory to read your email. And so they launched the small 7 inch screen Eee PC range and started a revolution. But now the same “bigger and faster” disease has hit the netbook and new devices like the fabled Apple Tablet could take their place.

If Apple has a new product waiting in the sidelines they are keeping very quiet about it. But that is normal for Apple, they are fanatical about keeping product developments secret. But equally as frenzied are the Apple rumour mongers and they are saying that something big is coming. It has been reported, by the FT, that Apple have booked the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for several days in late January. The question is why?

According to Ofcom the UK sends the most text messages in Europe, in fact we Brits send the most text messages in the world except for the USA. Last year an estimated 83 billion text messages where sent in the UK. Also UK consumers have access to the cheapest prices for mobile phones and broadband, but the overall broadband speed in the UK isn’t up to par when compared with our fellow Europeans in Holland, Sweden and France.
Microsoft has often played nice with Apple and there are Apple Mac versions of Office, Messenger and even Remote Desktop Connection. Now Microsoft has embraced the iPhone by releasing a Bing app. Although Microsoft has a couple of apps for the iPhone, bringing Bing to the platform is a recognition of the iPhone’s popularity. The app looks quite neat and as well as including voice search, image searching and news it also has location based services like maps and movies.
