Apple iPhone 3G Advert Banned
Now when you hear of adverts being banned, you’d think it must be something really bad, right? Well in this case, I think it’s a little over the top. But read on and you decide.
The Advertising Standards Authority have banned Apple’s iPhone 3G advert, claiming that Apple have exaggerated the phone’s speed and are therefore misleading the public.
The advert shows internet pages loading in under a second and continually states that the phone is ‘really fast’.
17 people have complained to the ASA, protesting that the advert misled them regarding the phone’s speed.
Apple UK say that their claims were “relative rather than absolute in nature”. They were simply comparing the phone to its 2G predecessor and in comparison, the iPhone 3G is in fact really fast. The text on screen said, ‘network performance will vary by location’ and Apple also stated that the average consumer would realise this.
Two words… common sense. Something that a certain 17 people are obviously lacking!
