Here’s a gadget for those who think that turning something on “just at the flick of a switch” is far too much effort. The Mathmos Airswitch light is not only a funky looking retro-style lamp, it works just by the hover of your hand. David Copperfield is now down an act.
The lamp features a sensor which can sense the placement your hand and will adjust the light accordingly. To turn it on or off, magically sweep your hand across the top of the light in the smoothest move you’re ever likely to perform on a hot date. If you are on the said date and require some mood lighting, just move your hand vertically towards the light and it will dim. If the date’s not going so well, move your hand up from the light and it will brighten (the light- no guarantees on your night).
Yes, this gadget is a bit gimmicky; I mean just how hard is it to press a button like in the old days? There are a few good uses for this though apart from the very cool gift factor.
For the ladies, if you’ve just painted your nails, there’s no need to risk an unnecessary chip from operating the lamp necessary for that perfect manicure. For those who like things neat and clean, the fact that no one has to touch this lamp means no fingerprints or jam-residue smears on the light switch anymore.
While this light is in the same vein of a clap light, it is ultimately much more subtle and not necessary to pretend to be at a U2 concert just to see the study properly.

I have one of the mathmos lightbulbs that detect if your cell is receiving a call. It is really cool, but probably unnecessary, just like this lamp.

Actually the lamp detecting your mobile phone calling is a pretty handy gadget! Especially for people like me who are prone to leaving their phone of silent all of the time.
