Its August 2011 now and I bought my L350 in June 2008.

I have had no issues with this laptop apart from the camera screen getting scratched by the lower case when closed but then it has had a hard life dragged from country to country on planes, traines and other forms of transport and a new power supply as the cable frayed due to being constantly wound and un-wound. I am now upgrading to a larger hard drive as I am at capacity and have just replaced the keyboard as the letters were starting to wear off (I am a very heavy user).

I use it for all office applications including programming and databases as well as other things like watching movies from my external hard drive and of course internet browsing.

WIFI is great and has good range.

It does get quite hot on your lap but the dual processors rarely exceed 55.C even in a non airconditioned room in India.

I am very happy with this laptop and despite being offered a new model I prefered to keep this with a larger hard drive.

There are many many newer, faster, shinyier(?) laptops available but I cant work out what more I would need. So until it finally falls over and refuses to work any more its a keeper.

I would like to add a follow up comment to this review. 2011 and my toshiba is still going great!

I have upgraded the Processor, Ram and HDD.

It is now Intel Core Duo2 T7300 2.0Ghz, 4Gb Ram and 1Tb samsung spinpoint HDD.

The Hard drive section is large enough to take the newer 12.5mm width HDD, Hence the upgrade to a 1Tb The Lpatop is great I can convert videos to DVD, I can upload massive files across the wireless network. Everything my desktop PC can do and still runs fairly cool.

There is a slight heat increase under your left palm from the HDD but is to be expected.

I have no intention of replacing it just yet. I intend on replacing the wifi card with a 'n' adapter next. I have owned mine since 2008, the release of the laptop.

I've just brought one from Comet and I have to say for £399 it's an excellent buy.
I've had Dell/Sony/HP and Toshiba laptops and to be honest they have all been pretty good.
Obviously the more you spend the more you get.

I agree with the others the rattle of the hard disk should tell you the drive is faulty, Tosh make good kit always have always will.
Dov you just got a Monday morning machine mate !

I have to agree with Gaj it sounds like you just had bad luck and got your hands on a faulty model, it does happen but the company should hand you over a new one with no problems, I found none of the problems you mentioned above.

Sorry about your luck its happened to me before and its gutting.

Generally I find that Toshiba's laptops are of a high qaulity just like Compaq's. Do you not believe that it was a faulty one-off, what don't you like about the build quality and whats the difference between the Compaq and Toshiba?

My brother uses a Toshiba Satellite A200 and its not the best laptop (my Viao was much better but I paid double the price for it) so IMHO for the price I think it was really good value.

The Toshiba L350-10L is a hopeless notebook. I bought one recently myself and I am not pleased. It is very cheaply made, if you put your hand onto the outside cover it sinks inwards since its made of plastic. Mine broke down on the first day, everything froze and a cliclking and banging noise came from inside the hard-drive. When reloaded the laptop would just freeze on the opening screen and the noise would continue. I returned it the next day and thankgod I bought a different make and model. I bought a Compaq Presario A900 and I have to say I am impressed with the quality. It has a tough hold but is very smooth and attracts a load of dust. I would never recommend the Toshiba L350-10L to anyone after having a major problem with it.
