LogMeIn Ignition: PC access through iPhone or iPod Touch

Here’s a nifty service we’ve come across- if you’re one of the many iPhone or iPod Touch users out there, there is now a service which allows you to access your computer and work as if you were sitting in front of your full-sized keyboard and 32″ monitor.

LogMeIn Ignition will connect to desktops and laptops running LogMeIn Free, LogMeIn Pro or LogMeIn IT Reach and can be used to control both PCs and most Macs. If you happen to be prone to rushing work deadlines, this extra piece of connectivity may just save your career. Or at least make your work day a bit less hectic.

Key features of this service include:

-One-touch access to remote computers, allowing users to access and control files and programs
-”My Computers” list that displays all available remote computers

-Full keyboard, mouse, zoom and scroll control using touch screen, consistent with other iPhone/iPod touch applications

-Securely saves login information

-Option settings for optimising the experience of connecting to and controlling the remote computer, including locking the remote computer’s keyboard, blanking the screen of the remote computer and screen resolution

All in all, LogMeIn Ignition sounds like a handy product that will mean you can use your train commuting time more effectively than by reading a free paper.

LogMeIn Ignition for the iPhone and iPod touch is expected to be available soon through the Apple App Store.

Looks pretty cool, but what will be the price of this Ignition? I’ve used LogMeIn Rescue in the past, and it was way too pricey. I’m currently using a service called Techinline Remote Desktop (www.techinline.com) which is not as fully-featured, but is more than enough to run connections with my remote clients and transfer files, and the catch is I’m now paying abour a quarter of what I was paying for the Rescue service.

LogMeIn Ignition isn’t too bad actually- an annual subscription will set you back USD$39.95 (£24.90) per year or USD$7.95 (£4.95) per month.

I guess it depends on what you intend to use different LogMeIn services for as there are definitely cheaper services out there, but as you say you only pay for a certain number of features.
