The Tulipe – a Gadget for Plant Killers

Are your fingers less green and more a sort of mouldy brown? Been asked to water your Mum’s plans while she’s in the South of France? You’d better hope that student Natalie King gets an investor for her Tulipe pot then!

Natalie, 22, designed the pot as a final major project at university after taking inspiration from her Grandad. She said: “My grandfather had always been a keen gardener but he suffers from something called age-related macular degeneration, which reduces his vision.” With this in mind, she set about to create a plant pot which contains sensors in the base, which detect levels of moisture, temperature and light. If something isn’t good enough to keep your plant happy and healthy, the pots base will change from green to red, and as an extra ‘help me’ indicator, it even vibrates when it is picked up.

So it’s great for those who are partially sighted, as well as those of us who just can’t keep track of the last time we watered our plants, never mind played them Mozart to stimulate growth. Now there’s no excuse for letting your daisies die.
