How to Fix iPhone 4G Reception Issues

The internet is a wash with rumour and counter-claims regarding the signal issues for the new iPhone 4G – according to many of its users there is a problem with the new phone’s antenna when it’s being held in a certain way.

According to reports on Engadget, the problem is to do with part of the antenna around the black bar on the bottom left of the iPhone. If your hand bridges that gap between the two antennas then the signal dies.

According to Steve Jobs’ all we should do is “don’t hold it on that way” or apparently you can buy a case that will prevent the loss of signal.

If you hold the iPhone 4 in your right hand, you probably won’t see the issue at all, holding the phone landscape to send text messages and browsing the web helps with the issue.

Check out the email from Steve Jobs’ below and see what he has to say – which isn’t a lot.

So are you having problems with your new pride and joy? Let us know below….

The response from Mr Jobs sums up Apple’s attitude to its customers.

  2. Left handed User says:

I run a QA company that specialises in left handed testing -Apple are more than welcome to utilise our services.

  3. Carol Tasn says:

If you are holding the phone left handed. Why did they put the antenna in that position. You hold it that way when you are talking on the phone? Will there be a fix?

  4. selfsilent says:

Just fit one of the Apple bumpers. It’ll stop you bridging the antennas.
I’m sure Apple will start clear coating these metal bands so you can’t make contact with them directly.

  5. stlphilo says:

LMAO @ all the lemmings that bought Iphone 4G!!!!!

  6. Joe says:

I have the new iPhone but can’t make the signal do that. It never loses signal even one bar when I bridge the gaps on the antenna.

That is poor customer service Mr Jobs. You are no different from Mr Gates. Mind you, after all you guyz used to be best buddies in the early days.

  9. Daniel newton says:

I have just got the new iPhone and I can’t believe they have released it with this fault.

  10. Firas says:

Returned mine for a refund today. Even with the loss of recetion when holding it in the “magical way”, I also found it to have extremely shady reception when not touched. I connect it to my bluetooth in my car and noticed that my calls were still consitently dropping and at the very best, was having voice transmission issues. Poor, poor phone. Wont buy again unless redesigned and ALL faults addressed.

  11. raj says:

have returned mine as well. last time I buy apple. Going to wait for the next HTC instead, it will be cheaper and wont be locked into apple. Besides have seen android and it kicks ass!

  12. Masztaar says:

That company makes me throw up. To all you mindless sheep buying apples constant introductions of what they call new technology – stop it, nothing is new, nothing is “revolutionary”. Apple is a company that works alot like a cult, and their leader is a prick who is halting the evolution of technology.

Buy android you schmucks – it beats apples products on nearly all levels, its open source (like Linux) and its backed by Google. Oh and yeah you can actually call with those phones. And use flash. And choose your operator. And its cheaper than an iPhone.

HTC Desire – if you want my advice on wich phone to get.

    i phone sux!

  14. designboy says:

I’ve been an apple user in some degree for the past 20 years -but the iphone 4 is a poor, substandard phone. When not even holding it the reception fluctuates, I’ve sat and watches it compared to a 3G iphone and it’s consistently 2 or 3 bars lower.
Apple needs to sort the problem and quickly

  15. Akram says:

Ok ,but holding mobile in right hand is danger on brain right side !!

  16. Jhaileen says:

Um I just got the iPhone 4g for christmas and when I was on my couch and I picked it up it like shut down and won’t turn on like it’s broken it’s been like this for a week now what do I do?
