Toast. There seems to be a trend at the moment for putting things on it. And I’m not talking about jam – I mean messages of love, or images of Darth Vader.

Have you ever wondered how these fantastic patterns appear on your toast? Ok, neither have I, but designer Xu Yan Xiany obviously did, because he’s created the Smile Cooking Toaster – a see through smiley making burner of bread.

It’s pretty much just a big clip. Sandwich (oh-ho! See what I did there?!) your bread between the slides, set the temperature with the timer display and watch the smile appear. The see through design also means you’ll never have to scrape the black bits into the sink either…
