One of the reasons Apple Corps. didn’t want Apple Inc. (the makers of the Apple Mac, the iPod and the iPhone) to get into music was because of the confusion over the names. So when you read Apple in the title you may have wondered why Apple Inc. are releasing a USB stick with music on it. The answer is simple, it is the other Apple. Apple Corps. (pronounced “apple core” as a pun) is the corporation founded by The Beatles to handle all of their business matters. Now Apple Corps. and EMI Music are releasing an apple shaped USB stick with 14 of the Beatles’s albums in digital format.
The limited edition of only 30,000 apple-shaped USB drives are loaded with the re-mastered audio for The Beatles' 14 stereo titles, as well as all of the re-mastered CDs' visual elements, including 13 mini-documentary films about the studio albums, replicated original UK album art, rare photos and expanded liner notes.
The 16GB USB drive will have a specially designed Flash interface and the music will come in FLAC 44.1 Khz 24 bit and MP3 320 Kbps formats. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a lossless audio format which means that during compression, FLAC does not lose quality where as MP3 does. Since FLAC is open source and royalty-free it is a good choice for those who want the purest digital form of the Beatle’s music.
The 14 albums included are:
- Please Please Me
- With The Beatles
- A Hard Day’s Night
- Beatles For Sale
- Help!
- Rubber Soul
- Revolver
- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
- Magical Mystery Tour
- Yellow Submarine
- The White Album
- Abbey Road
- Let It Be
- Past Masters
The USB apples will be released on December 7 (December 8 in North America) and costs £200. You can pre-order now from the TheBeatles.com online store.
