ARCHOS Show Off 9 Inch Tablet PC; Includes TV Tuner.

ARCHOS-9-Intro.jpg

ARCHOS held a special event this week and announced a whole range of different mini PCs and netbooks. The leading product of the announcement (which also included a netbook and a laptop) was the ARCHOS 9 PC Tablet. This touch screen device doesn’t have a physical keyboard but the software provides a virtual keyboard which you use with your fingers directly on the screen.

This PC Tablet is very light and weighs in at only 800g. It is also very thin with a thickness (or should I say thinness) of just 16mm. Technology wise the ARCHOS 9 uses state-of-the-art technologies including the 1.2Ghz low power consumption Intel Atom Z515, a 80GB hard disk, an integrated webcam, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi 802.11b/g for wireless Internet connection.

An amazing feature of the ARCHOS 9 is that it has two TV antennas and two tuners. This makes it possible to look at and record digital terrestrial television simultaneously.

On the OS front the ARCHOS 9 will ship with Windows 7 Starter Edition. Although the 1.2Ghz single core processor may sound slow when compared to todays bigger CPUs, this is exactly the type of machine that Windows 7 Starter is aimed at.

The ARCHOS 9 will be available in the autumn 2009 which is also when Windows 7 will ship. A 12 inch version will be also available to the beginning of 2010. Expected pricing is around £385.
