James Bond Style Mobile Phone Watch

Author: GadgetGirl | Files under General, Mobiles, Sat Nav

Gathering dust at the bottom of my jewellery box, I can’t really remember the last time I used my watch. Apart from checking the time it can’t really do anything else and in the world of gadgets today it’s just seen as a lump of metal weighing down your arm unnecessarily. Well, this unnecessary accessory may have become necessary as I introduce to you the James Bond Style Windows mobile phone watch!

Big enough to fit a SIM card to enable users to make calls through a Bluetooth handset, it also has an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera and a tiny 1.4 inch phone display. Okay it may not compare to your mobile phone but it’s a cool gadget nonetheless and definitely has show off potential.

MP3 audio and MP4 video content can be packed into a 512MB Micro SD memory card, which is enough for the spec of this mobile phone watch. The phone supports Wi-Fi and if you thought they forgot about GPS then think again because it also includes a GPS chip to turn it into a mini Sat Nav.

A UK release date hasn’t been revealed yet so ‘watch’ this space (oops pardon the pun!)

Author: Simon Mackness-Pettit | Files under Mobiles

With more and more people using Sat Navs to get around in their cars, it was only a matter of time before this was going to hit the mobile phone market. Certain mobiles already come with this kind of technology integrated into their software, Wayfinder however allows mobiles that are able to use this technology but do not have the required software to use the benefits of their more updated cousins.

This does however come at a price, £39.99 to be exact but this can be a cheaper alternative to buying a new phone and allows people who are in love with their mobbies to use GPS technology.

Another feature that has been added to this is its integration into the popular social networking tool Facebook, with this feature you are able to show yours friends and family on Facebook where you have been or to point out any interesting spots you have found during your adventures. So it’s no more, “Its uummm….by that thunder struck tree”, with Wayfinder you can actually show them the route with its Google Earth interface!

At the moment there is a free 5 day trial available, so why not give it a go and see for yourself the power of Wayfinder.

TomTom GO 930 Review: A Welcome Addition to the Sat Nav A-List

Author: Simon Mackness-Pettit | Files under Home Entertainment, Nintendo, Sat Nav, TomTom

tomtom 930Overview

Pull out the red carpet, get your cameras at the ready as we introduce to you the latest addition to the Sat Nav A-List, the TomTom GO 930. Making it the envy of all the other Sat Navs, the TomTom GO 930 has got it all, brains as well as beauty…but surely underneath that flawless exterior there lurks an imperfection? The only way to find out is to read on to see whether the TomTom GO 930 can cut it, as a Sat Nav A-Lister….

Review

Style and beauty defines the exterior of the TomTom GO 930. Posing a 4.3″, 16:9 format widescreen display, this sexy Sat Nav is opting for the size zero option with its slim design to fit right into your pocket with ease.

Under it sexy exterior it looks as though the TomTom GO 930, has certainly been blessed with a great set of brain cells. With voice input, its fast and easy to set your destination, rather than the old style pressing of the destination button, all you need to do is to speak. Simply say ‘home’ and the TomTom GO 930 will alleviate your home sickness by planning your route in a jiffy and taking you to ‘home sweet home.’

All of its routes, be it to the local shop or to your parents house are all calculated by set average speeds on roads that have been recorded rather than the maximum speed on the road. This may save you time as the TomTom will not send you down a road that’s the national speed limit but is always grid locked as the average speed on the road may actually only be 20Mph.

The HP Pavilion DV9702EA Laptop - The Entertainer but is it a Fighter?

Author: Simon Mackness-Pettit | Files under PC

The HP Pavilion DV9702EA is latest laptop offering from HP, and all in all it’s not a bad piece of kit. With it being a HP you know before you buy it you’re getting a brand that’s well respected in the tech community, and while it’s classed as an entertainment laptop it’s not so powerless that it can’t be used for the sneaky game here and there too.

It seems that HP decided to let this laptop down by using its budget AMD Turion processor rather than the more powerful Athlon processor which would only have cost that little bit extra. But as it is, it’s like Sonic The Hedgehog running through water, he can run so much faster but is slowed down by another factor.

This is the case for this laptop, with it coming with 2GB of RAM, a 120GB Hard Drive and a NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS with 256 MB of dedicated memory, this laptop can plough through every business application on the market, can fight the good fight when it comes down to tackling multimedia applications, it just won’t be that great when it comes to rendering and compositing videos.

A nice feature that has been added on this laptop is its Lightscribe DVD Writer which allows you to burn images onto the disc directly so you can make professional looking CD/DVD’s at the click of a button.

But as said before, with this processor don’t be expecting to run any of the next gen PC games, however if your feel like some gaming fun then this laptop will withstand some classics and a few of the ‘undemanding’ games out there.

NDrive G280 and G800 GPS Units Includes ‘Crystal Clear’ Photo Mapping

Author: Simon Mackness-Pettit | Files under Sat Nav

NDrive has released the first ever Sat Nav which incorporates photo mapping technology. This is supposed to deliver a better image than the 1D/3D images currently available in Sat Navs on the market today.

What photo mapping means is that the images shown to the user as they drive around are actual real life images so when you set your destination to the local gym, the roads you are taken on are indeed images that you see with your very own eyes!

This is great news for the Sat Nav market, as current Sat Navs using 1D/3D images are normally shapes and arrows have always been rather difficult to differentiate between which road the Sat Nav wants you to go down. However, with photo mapping, instead of imagining the road ahead the NDrive Sat Nav will give you crystal clear vision of your chosen destination.

With two new devices from NDrive, code named G280 and G800, boasting this technology, we’ll only have to wait until the end of April for their release to see if they live up to their claims. The prices range from £199 and £335, with both units also including, visual and audible speed camera alerts, a pedestrian mode for out-of-vehicle use, and other usual features you would find in a normal device. However, if you want to take it that one step further then the G800 offers also a built in Bluetooth and FM Transmitter.

We’ll just have to now wait and see what other Sat Nav giants will do to step up their game to be crowned worthy winners of the Sat Nav world…
